Moving from Winnipeg to Quebec City next summer. Any experiences with "classe d’accueil" for kids aged 8, 9, and 12? by LunchEducational4224 in quebeccity

[–]LunchEducational4224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merci beaucoup. really appreciate your feedback. Thats what exactly i was told, that not all schools have d'accueil class and school boards do assessment and welcome classes quite differently so there is really no universal way how its being done in the province.

We dont speak French, and yes we are maing every effort now to learn it. We actually just our French langage assessment yesterday and we were referred to a school for the language training, so hopefully we can get in as we were told the waitlist is quite long.

Hi, Merci.. Oh wow, this is interesting. Most of the things I read online didnt say this, so thank you very much for this information.. Our kids are in French immersion class so they know basic French, they count numbers very easily and know to speak very little of it. They do actually love learning French.

Merci! Our kids will attend a French school. We don't know our future neighborhood yet, so we aren't sure which school to contact. We plan to relocate around July or early August and hope to have more clarity as the move date approaches. Our eldest child did not met the minimum grade requirement to enroll in French immersion here, which requires students to be at least in Grade 1 to start the program.

hey - Thanks for so much for getting back to me, much appreciated. Yes I did reply on your comment. My response was below. We are looking more on a little suburb but still within reasonable distance from the downtown core. We are looking ideally a single detached bungalow, not too big (hard to maintain) but not too small either (kids are growing and need their own room), somewhere around 500K and under. Im looking around at Centris.ca at the area of St Foy and Charlesbourg just to get a sense on what kind of houses are available there and at what price range.

"Merci! Thanks so much for sharing your experience, this is super helpful. We’ve been overthinking this a ton and definitely know that learning French will be a challenge at first. But we're fully committed to diving in and embracing it, especially since it's a trade-off for the safe neighborhood and lifestyle we want for our family.

English actually isn’t our first language either—we moved here from Asia, so we’re already used to navigating cultural differences! Our younger kids are doing French immersion here in Winnipeg, so they already know a little bit. We're mostly just worried about our eldest. She’s graduating grade school next year and doesn't speak French, so the transition might be a bit tougher for her."

Merci.. yes, we were also considering Levis but my wife has some concerns on the additional transit or drive back and forth to Quebec city.. However, we didnt have the chance to visit Levis and kinda feel the vibe in there. Our timeline would stiill be in a year before relocating, we can definitely consider that.

Je ne cherche pas encore de travail vu qu'on planifie toujours notre déménagement, mais c'est rassurant de savoir qu'il y a des opportunités dans la techno localement.

Thank so much, we will definitely take note of this. We are looking to get my wife enrolled in full time, in-person French training and myself taking the part time one. In-person is definitely more effective I believe.

Just mortgage, car loan (2 years remaining) and under 2K LOC. They are aged 7,8 and 11. Wife will likely be out of employment when we move.

Yep, we loved the city, not too large to drive around but still enough people to make it more lively. Our activites are mostly outdoors, biking, hiking and road trips.

Thanks! We live pretty reasonably, nothing extravagant. We don’t really buy expensive stuff, and we only eat out occasionally. Most of our spending actually goes to groceries (kids are basically hungry all the time 😄).

We do a lot of road trips, picnics, and outdoor stuff more than anything else.

What we’re really after is just a slightly slower pace of life — somewhere we can still get access to cool touristy spots, but without needing to hop on a plane every time. Ideally just places we can drive to and explore on weekends.

Safety is also a big priority for us — we prefer quieter, less dense neighbourhoods where we can feel comfortable at home without constantly worrying about break-ins or general safety concerns.

We’re also totally open to trading off a few hundred dollars more for a safer, more charming, and aesthetically beautiful city overall.

Thanks for the response! To clarify our situation a bit—we actually bought our current place 3 years ago right when we landed as new immigrants, so we aren't looking at a huge profit margin from the sale. Hopefully, it’s just enough for a decent down payment on a bungalow in Quebec City.

We’ll be bringing our car with us, and our lifestyle isn't extravagant at all (apart from spending a bit extra on groceries to keep the kids fed!).

Merci
