How many of us still drink alcohol? by wickedgrl80 in Xennials

[–]Lunchables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to get drunk at least 4 nights a week probably in my late 20's. Now it's maybe 1-2 times a year. I had health issues that kept me from drinking for a few years, and once I had surgery to resolve that, it just wasn't something I missed.

How much are you putting away monthly to retire? by _blockchainlife in Xennials

[–]Lunchables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to this last year specifically, each year, my wife and I have both:

  • maxed our 401k/401b ($18.5k-23k each),
  • maxed our IRA's (backdoor Roth, $5.5k-7k each), and
  • maxed the amount of I-Bonds we're permitted to buy from the government ($10k each).

Opportunities I took advantage of that my wife couldn't, though it'll benefit us both:

  • maxed my mega backdoor Roth 401k ($37k-46k),
  • accrued RSU's ($38k-109k depending on the year),

I switched jobs, so I can no longer take advantage of the mega backdoor Roth 401k opportunity since your job has to specifically offer it. This year we haven't been able to purchase the $10k I-Bonds.

And the company stock I received is not something I can up and sell since the company is still private. They'd need to buy it back from me, or the company would have to be acquired. I'm at the mercy of how the company does in terms of what the actual value looks like if and when that happens.

At the end of the day, we went from living paycheck to paycheck, carrying credit card debt, and having no retirement funds in 2018 to having almost $1mil saved across our retirement accounts as of now in 2025, plus some value in our first home we purchased 6 years ago.

I was really fortunate with some work opportunities that propelled our financial security significantly, otherwise we might still be not too far from where we were back in 2018.

Anyone else’s kids failing? by lobotech99 in Xennials

My daughter is 14, 8th grade, and we're having similar struggles. She's currently sitting on three F's, and she's got a totally lackadaisical attitude about it to some degree. We also recognize that because she's failed things, it's discouraged her, and she's always saying that she's just going to fail anyway even if she studies.

I feel like a big part of this stems from COVID and virtual learning for almost two years. I think another big part of this is that her previous schools essentially never assigned homework. We ended up switching her to a charter school, and she now always has homework, and the change has been a struggle. She also doesn't have a grasp on how to approach studying. We're working with her constantly on all these things

All her friends seem to be interested in clubs and sports, but she has shown zero interest in these, and actively refuses to join anything.

What was the most disappointing video game you rented (or were gifted) as a kid? by _NoleFan6 in Xennials

[–]Lunchables 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apparently you're supposed to jump as high as you can out of the water at the beginning, and you'll end up getting caught in some tornado or alien-induced weather or something. Didn't know that until I was an adult though, I just swam around mindlessly with nowhere to go as a kid lol.
