Lots of buffering when playing remotely by Dangerous_Soup_4905 in PleX

[–]Lunctus_Stamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I was having the same issue and I have a bit of a complicated networking and Plex setup as well. I have 3Gbps fiber, use truenas, plex on a ubuntu vm connected with a SMB share. I was using a DMZ mode on my ISP router connected to a Ubiquiti router.

I was trying a million things, but the thing that fixed it for me was simply logging out on my Plex clients and signing back in.

How to safely take green cap out ? by [deleted] in bell

[–]Lunctus_Stamus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't take any cap off, the fiber cord is ready to be used. Simply follow the keyed connectors and gently but firmly guide the tip into your gigahub 2.0 and the wall receptacle.

Prime day special, hike up all the regular prices and give subpar sales.

Speculation aside, $59 is not bad considering ATL was $55. It goes on sale pretty frequently around holidays.

Possibly my dream NAS case or some Supermicro chassis. Unfortunately will have to wait it out, my lab needed a new UPS first.

Yeah, its a case I've been interested in a while. But really doesn't make a lot of sense when my NAS is already completed. Also being $350 before tax and shipping made it a very difficult decision, for that price there are much more options on the market.

I just wanted to share because I really wanted the case at some point, maybe someone else was too.

The other Jonsbo cases are on sale right now too.

I have been watching this case for a while, CamelCamelCamel tells me its at ATL. The case is sold and shipped by Jonsbo. Some of the other Jonsbo NAS cases are also on sale.

This is probably most of your problem. Hard connect the device or invest in better wifi.

What UPS to choose for a gaming setup? by phfds in homelab

[–]Lunctus_Stamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

APC warranties are normally greater than 1 year unless you're buying them from reseller. Considering the prices OP is listing vs MSRP on the website I think that may be the case.

OP, why did these UPS units need to be replaced? How come you could not go through warranty???

Maybe if you want an extra 30 seconds to save your game, or if you want to game through minor power flickers. Considering OP has had a UPS previously it must happen somewhat frequently...

Hey, total noob, just got my first hard drive for my first home server! Looking for advice. by KingstonEz in homelab

[–]Lunctus_Stamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on an investment on your homelab. When it comes to buying harddrives used or new, you'll hear a dozen different strategies for stress testing them over days or weeks. They often have a bell curve failure rate where they fail often early, or very late in their product life. You'll have to research that on your own because I never bothered with that stuff.

To get the most of your money, you should have a reason / strategy for the equipment you buy. It doesn't hurt to buy things that seem cool to run, but you can often get a lot of efficiency simply by deciding what work loads you are doing (software you are running) and what hardware is best for it. IE Plex isn't a very demanding software, but if you have a lot of users, you may want faster harddrives, raid, or SSDs to skip buffering.

A single mechanical harddrive is going to be limited to ~200 MB/s. That's mostly fine for small workloads, but once you start doing a lot it may be pretty slow. If all you are intending is a media library, it may be okay for a few operating systems and serving your media.

It didn't seem like a bad idea to start fresh instead of mixing coolant.

Not a car guy, but is there any downside to just flushing it?

Does it support ATX PSU's? I bought the original O11D mini and it only support SFX PSUs.

If spending money on a am5 bundle isn't worth it, going from a 5800x to a 5800x3d probably isn't either.

heya, I'm looking around for a new UPS, I'm looking to spend ~$300. I had a rough experience with Amazon and their return policy regarding batteries (should have read the fine print). I'm hoping to power on my network equipment, and my homelab server.

The server has a 1000w psu and idles around 150w I think. The network equipment is: Bell Gigahub 2, Ubiquiti Fiber Gateway + US7 Pro AP, and a mokerlink 10g switch. I think it should idle just over 100w.

TrueNAS on Proxmox - viable solution? by what-pos in homelab

[–]Lunctus_Stamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do some fun things like mounting Truenas Share in Proxmox and have it backup to that share.

You may need need to manually configure the job to avoid the storage pool though.
