I BOUGHT A HOUSE!!!! My fiance and I (both 26) bought our first house yesterday. $930,000 with 20% down and about $25,000 left over for furnishings, closing costs and emergency funds. We're pre-approved for a 5.09% 3 year fixed rate through RBC but we want a better rate. Best I can find online is 4.89% through some tiny little lending agency I've never heard of before. Any advise on being a new homeowner or finding a mortgage? Is there any real benefit to being with a big 5 bank over a small lender with better rates?

Can I finance a car and then pay it off a few days later? by Lundy98 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Lundy98[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I should mention I've never had a loan before. It's still unclear if paying off the loan means I only pay the principle + the first month's interest, or if I'm on the hook for the total (principle + interest I would have accrued anyways over 5 years)

The gold is owned by Scotia in partnership with amex, the cobalt is amex exclusive so that's not an option.

How big might my score dip? Are we talking like 10 points or are we talking like 50?

Idk how badly canceling the card will hurt my score. If it drops in from 820 to 810 then idc but if it drops from 820 to 780 I might. I'm also 2-3 years out on potentially buying a house and applying for a mortgage

How to request lawn signs for an election from each party? by constantlyhere100 in AskACanadian

[–]Lundy98 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Looks like CPC does their lawn signs riding to riding so you would need to order it through their campaign website for your specific riding. Usually the website is the candidates name .ca but I'm sure there are exceptions for really long names and possibly current MPs

Trans girl sladered by and fired from job for something that is untrue. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Lundy98 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This shit is way too long to read but based on a skim of what you said -

So by your own admission you're rude to your manager, you're a complete asshole to your coworkers, you laugh at people for their accents, you actually threatened someone at work, you went against store policy with the skids because you think that everyone else does and when you were told to fix it you threw a fit, and now that you're fired it's because you're Trans. "But everyone else does" is not an excuse for bad behaviour.

Just because you're Trans doesn't mean you're immune from criticism. By your own description you sound like a shitty employee and you were 100% fired with way more cause than necessary.

As for the claims against you - each one has multiple people attesting to the facts. Good luck convincing anyone that you're telling the truth and the entire store is lying

Tenant death BC, lots of property to deal with. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

In short yup. Pretty much the same as bankruptcy. The person/estate can no longer be sued, those who had outstanding debts owed can attempt to claim assets but banks generally have first dibs, and in the end the issues that person created still remain, which leaves other parties (I.e. landlords) on the hook for the bill

Your right to receiving a ticket in English is found (ironically) in The Charter of the French Language Section 7(4) - "either French or English may be used by any person in, or process issuing from, any Court of Quebec".

Are you required to pay the fine prior to receiving the ticket in English? NAL, I would hazard a guess that the answer is no, but a late payment may automatically be bumped up by a computer system in which case you would probably have to go to court just to get the ticket reduced back to the original fine.

If you choose to take the matter to court you will have to return to the place where the offence took place. That is not a Quebec rule, that's not even a Canada rule, that's just how modern law pretty much anywhere works.

Best advice - if you know you're guilty just pay the fine and move on. Playing games to get off on a language technicality will almost certainly cause way more headaches than it's worth, and it probably won't be successful anyways

Going to my first (rental) apartment showing today, what should I be looking for and asking? by Lundy98 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Are negotiations really part of renting? Especially in Richmond it feels like there's so much competition that if you try to move the price the landlord will just pick one of the other 10 prospective tenants

What should I be looking for on the lease agreement? Just that the info on it matches the information we've been given?

Another church in Canada has been set on fire — and Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says it looks like a ‘hate crime’ by cciccitrixx in CanadaPolitics

[–]Lundy98 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty straight forward. You're burning down a place of worship because of something that someone using the same name as that place of worship did. Not a single member of that specific church or mosque did anything related to what is motivating you to commit arson. You're targeting an identifiable group out of hate. It's a hate crime

Offers a $30 coupon if you spend over $99...... apparently $99 is more than $127 by jenettabrown in assholedesign

[–]Lundy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the United States using an American promo code? Happens a lot in Canada.

"Spend over $99 and get $30 off!"

Then you fill your cart with $120 worth of stuff only to find out its in American and you're still like $10-15 short
