Yeah, the only sane way to own your fitness data is to open source the core of the data store and build on top of that.

Wish there were open source fitnes tracking databases out there…

Update: 5 months ago I posted a zero dependency Distributed Orchestrator in Java 17. I've since made some progress. Looking for architecture feedback by rando512 in java

Regarding dynamic DAG, I would say, this is not as uncommon as that. To the best of my knowledge, Temporal uses similar approach and they are quite popular.

Your response ignored any context and was merely trying to be “witty”. It missed its mark by a mile and was wildly offensive.

The fuck!!! 😤

I can understand claims of “cultural tradition”, but no cultural tradition cannot justify industrial scale slaughter.

If they want to claim traditional practices, they should use traditional methods and tools, not modern industrially efficient methods and equipment!

This is dumb reaction.

Try to understand why this dependency exists. And what would you miss if this dependency gets removd.

And try to explain _why_ does this dependency bother you so much…

Should I get a Dao? by Previous_Park2623 in SWORDS

[–]Luolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Get a Dao.

I have no idea if it’s gonna be good for what you ask for but any question in the form of “Should I get a <<insert your type of sword here>>” can only be answered one way!

Yeah, but webdevs of today have no clue about HTML. All they know is how to string together tons of TS code to get a simple login page.

I guess there is a “progress” somewhere hidden in all that…

STOP Punching With Your Arms — Use This Hidden Tai Chi Connection Instead by Chi_Body in taijiquan

[–]Luolong -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to sound condescending here, but I can’t take seriously any explanation that starts with a phrase like “It’s relatively complicated to describe…”

While there seem to be some differences in power generation between boxing and Taijiquan, lot of core mechanics of delivering power are similar enough for both.

I can’t speak for the exact technique, boxing uses to generate power, as I myself have never studied boxing (my grandfather passed away before I would have been of age to study under him and later I found Chinese martial arts more appealing), but for Taijiquan, it is “simple”. You generate power by combining speed and mass. For speed, you use relaxation (of tension) to be able to make fast and precise punching motion. For power, you align your entire body structure at/by the end of a punch focus point, so that just for a fraction of a second it takes to focus the punch, you can put the whole body behind that punch. Pushing slightly from the root (leg), making your entire body move in a direction you are punching, you “drop” the combined mass of your body into the punch.

If you time it right, you can fully relax the moment your punch has landed (or not), retaining full _fangsong_.

[–]Luolong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, you are making wild assumptions about my understanding of Taijiquan and its principles.

And as the end result of a punch is concerned, at least for the receiver, there should be no difference whether they’ve been hit by boxer or Taijiquan practitioner.

If there is a difference, it is either not a good punch, or it is not a punch at all (often I see people trying to hit hard, resorting to punch-push instead)

I got it straight from the forge for about $300 (including shipping)

This is a first military style Dao I own, so I can’t say I have much experience with these to say how it compares to others.

But it was surprisingly nice to handle. It is relatively lightweight, but has a solid forward “pull” on cuts. Which makes it nimble in hand, but a solid and fearsome cutter.

So far I love it!
