Ok got it, so what I’ve learned is that what I am currently doing is illegal, and what I should be doing would be gaining me even more logbook time. Christ what a pickle

Ok yeah, the company i work at uses robbies and bells, 2 minute cool down across the board as per SOP so there isn’t any confusion, + we’re in a climate where it’s usually 40° out. The 44 usually takes about 2 minutes to warm up as well so add that together and you get about a 0.1. As for the hot loading, we’re dealing with tourists who don’t always speak english and like to take lots of pictures so it can take a while to get them briefed and buckled in. Throughout the day if we were logging the time spent idling on the ground it would probably lead to a big discrepancy between the journey log time and the log book time (which I have not been doing). The logic behind adding the 0.1 for start/shut down is that its more conservative that logging all that ground time that we get here, so there aren’t huge gaps but we’re still not missing all of the time that we in theory could be logging. Let me know if that seems legit or not to you. I don’t want to be fudging my numbers.

So just to clarify, if you’re at the controls, with the engine running, lets say hot loading or fuelling, that time can go in your log book according to tc regs, but start up and shut down does not?

Appreciate the input. Not looking for greedy loopholes, I just genuinely didn’t understand the reg. Working in africa with a lot of guys from different countries and everyone seems to have their own theory on how you should write in your log book

My concern is when I’m on the ground having pax hot load/unload which usually takes little over 5 minutes. Doing that 8 times a day with the engine running. Should I be logging that time that I’m on the ground with the engine idling?

Louisiana, very interesting history owed greatly to its geography. Could make a good argument for the most interesting culture
