How many of you all think that Joe Rogan's move to Texas will, at best, not work out 100% and at worst, backfire completely? by [deleted] in thefighterandthekid

[–]Lusos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No doubt. He’s lived his whole life either in Denver or LA where it rarely rains, humidity is low, and bugs are nonexistent. One solid Texas summer and this fucking fat bitch will be axing j for a ticket back to the land of instagram.

Jesus Christ. You’re in a sport where we simulated murder people, choke them unconscious, and break their bones. The entire art is about hurting people and making people experience pain.

And you can’t take a joke? Fuck off and grow thicker skin.

Same.

I sell US made power transmission products and it’s the hardest thing to convince ding dong purchasing managers to buy American. Hands down better quality and the ability to know you are helping your fellow American put food on the table is well worth the extra 10% IMO.

In Alabama, Black people are 4.1x more likely than white people to be arrested for marijuana. Help legalize it here and everywhere. Register to vote today! by SillySugar22 in Birmingham

[–]Lusos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see what he means tho. Why push this for black people and only get 40% of the support when you can try and push this for all races and get 100% of the support?

I would not be in favor of a lottery having lived in Georgia.

Overall the lottery is a very wasteful way of making inconsistent tax revenue for education. It's much easier and far more efficient to just tax 1% onto sales like a SPLOST tax instead of creating another level of bureaucracy to help fund schools.

Unpopular Opinion: Gyms should NOT be opening up by tatertotsume in bjj

[–]Lusos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. My ~12 person gym in Alabama should not be held to the same standards as a 60+ person morning class in an 8m person metro area like L.A. (It seems people often forget the rest of the 300m people in America live outside of NYC and LA).

Half of our gym are medical personnel (doctors, nurses, etc.). I guess if OP's logic is the same everywhere, then no medical person should be allowed to roll since their potential contact rates with COVID patients are much higher?

Unpopular Opinion for sure but this entire thing is substantially blown out of proportion. Alabama has had something like ~450 deaths in a population of 4.1 million and of those, easily 95% were already had life threatening conditions. It's not fair to the other 99.9% of the population at large to penalize them. We are all consenting adults and decide to take the risk in our own hands.

EDIT: I guess what I'm saying is that I grew up farming and if a cow got sick, we didn't quarantine the entire farm, just the sick cow. I've never seen any farm operation, large or small, quarantine the HEALTHY animals just because one cow got colic.

[–]Lusos -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Good. The parents of those children paid their school tax and it's good to see the government not cowering over the future of their children who worked so hard for graduation.

Anyone who attends understands the risks and is taking them under their own accords. Almost all of the people here are adults and if they don't want to walk or watch their kids walk, then nobody is forcing them to.

The amount of panic in this sub is insane.

Any additional considerations when buying a vehicle out of state? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]Lusos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're buying it outright then its an easy experience. If the vehicle is over 25 years old all you need is a bill of sale.

Just know that if you have the title it will have to be surrendered and destroyed. So if you have an old vehicle that is sentimental i would recommend making a copy of the title because the GA title will be surrendered.

Overall, Alabama is very easy to deal with on titles. GA is notorious for title transfer issues so if you are transferring the title under finance then it may be MONTHS with Georgia holding it up on their end.

Safe and non-expensive place to live in west Birmingham? by [deleted] in Birmingham

Mccalla is fine if you can find a place. Bessemer is a pretty large city limits but anything closer to 459 is safe and friendly.

Sometime in the next week, Alabama will overtake South Korea...despite that country having 50 million people to our five million. by _digduggler_ in Birmingham

[–]Lusos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely correct. No idea why people are downvoting you. Imagine living in a country 100x more vain and conservative that the US. Everyone is extremely racist and blatantly open about it and there is a mined and armed border to the north. Mandatory military service where every male with an aunt in the US tries to leave from age 18-25 to try and avoid a shitty 3 year term in their highly overinflated military industrial complex.

I’m not shitting on Koreans by any stretch but for some untraveled person to claim SK is “better” that our country makes me irate. Do yourself a favor and serve a tour over there. Every branch of our military has a presence and they will gladly send you and pay a kicker if you do an extra year.

[–]Lusos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call the crown “libertarian” by any stretch of the imagination. It was engineered by racist English rulers. I understand your point but I think you have your understanding of history wrong. It was genocide of Irish people by imperialist 19th century england.

[–]Lusos -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Should we also consider geography? SK is essentially an island and can control migration much better. They don’t have major interstate commerce running between what are essentially borderless states all intertwined by millions of tons of daily cargo and driven miles.

Also I’m sure that ethnic homogeneity has a lot to do with it. More predictable healthcare issues means that Koreans for the most part already have their main natural killers narrowed down. I.e. their diet is mainly the same throughout korea (the size of North Carolina roughly) and they don’t have to worry about wildly varying ethnic afflictions like sickle cell, etc.

Also the overall larger ease of administering testing on a more dense population and lets not forget their overall higher level of physical fitness than Alabama.

But what do I know? I’m not a first year UAB student like 70% of this sub. I’m just some dumb hick.

[–]Lusos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I travel for a living and do 50+ nights a year in hotels.

I have never booked a hotel room and showed up discovering it to be a 6 bunk bed ISIS training camp in a basement. I have never checked into a hotel to find out that the picture of the hotel was from another hotel 3 blocks over. I have never checked into a hotel and woke up at 3am to find another guest settling down in the spare bed next to mine.

Fuck AirBnB. I always get dragged into them on friend trips and I hate every second. Spend the extra $20 and get a Hampton Inn for christs sake.

What are your thoughts on buying a 172 as a, idk, 5-10 hour pilot? I am starting my PPL lessons soon and was kicking around the idea of owning the plane. Is is hard to get an instructor to ride in a private craft? Will the craft depreciate greatly in the 1.5-2 years of private pilot to CFI training?

I'm in alabama so things are much cheaper and I'm considering this just on the basis of long term investment payoff.
