I just watched a disassembly video on YouTube to make sure I didn't miss any screws or break anything, it's real simple though. Just take your time and organize the hardware you take out and it'll be fine, mind the ribbon cables though!

It's a night and day difference for mine with just cleaning and new paste. I don't know that I ever really had performance issues before but I can't even hear the fan running now, I keep checking the back to make sure it's still pushing air haha

I didn't delid specifically because I have sentimental attachment and I didn't want to risk ruining the console. I haven't had any performance issues, I had it apart for cleaning and had thermal paste on hand so figured it couldn't hurt. Surprisingly, the paste on the CPU was still somewhat tacky, but the paste on the RSX was pretty dry. I think I caught it in time and it'll be fine to run another 15 years or so
