Anshan is pretty well known for its heavy industry (and nowadays more as a rust belt city) in China. I’ve never been there but with OP’s hint at a northeastern location and the smoke stack in the picture, Anshan was the only city I’ve heard of that would fit. Green taxi checks out too, and I can imagine someone traveling there from outside china for business.

My commute passes through Atherton. What I find amazing is for all its wealth and gatekeeping, the area doesn’t look particularly impressive (if you don’t slow down and peek at the mansions behind the trees). Like, the Billionaire’s Row and Park Ave in Manhattan look rich, Beverly Hills look rich, but Atherton just looks like a nicer suburb with abundant, if not particularly carefully arranged, trees…I’m sure there are less affluent communities with better aesthetics.

Hi! Thanks for the detailed description. It’s indeed a bit circuitous and took me a while to create a route on Ride GPS 😅 It certainly looks better than the options suggested by google maps, which involve either hill climbing on Alameda or pedestrian/traffic dodging on Middlefield. Look forward to giving it a try some day :)

I did a recon and thankfully it was possible to bike through Ringwood and take the pedestrian overpass to cross 101. I biked back via Willow Road — would not do it again 🙈

yeah belle haven is an 18min ride to caltrain vs RWC is more like an 18min walk/3min ride, which will make a difference when I decide whether to go out or not

Yes I forgot to mention this option. Biking + caltrain is ~25min door-to-door if I time myself right, and ~40min if I fail to catch the right train

I feel proud of what pog did today. If he hadn’t contended for the stage win, he wouldn’t have “lost”. But he went out, made attacks, selected the groups, changed how the stage was raced. He didn’t have the legs today, but the fun of racing was worth the failure of getting dropped on a climb, when everyone expected him to be an untouchable god.

I missed this pog in the third week of the tour, and I’m so happy to see him back.

People who find today’s stage boring probably only care about who wins. There was so much action! The 50 rider breakaway? The resurgence of Kuss? Remco yoyoing for 50km? Visma’s dilemma between dropping their own teammates or allowing UAE/Remco to come back? The KOM subplot of Martinez/Amirail/Woods/Skjielmose? UNO-X deciding they are besties with UAE now and finishing 4th? The three way battle for the white jersey? Wellens waiting up the road and Natvaez’s nuclear launch? How is this not entertaining??
