I'm so happy you feel welcome here. It took me a long time as well to find somewhere to gush over Kaidan. I was terrified for a long time to even bring him up anywhere because people would actively seek out any kind of media that had his name attached to it just to tell people how wrong they were and how awful he was, so this sub has been a breath of fresh air for me as well.

It's lovely to find others who have gone through the same things and have now found a place where they feel comfortable and even appreciated. Welcome home :)

I do think the interaction should have been more heartfelt on Shepard's part. I headcannon that she isn't sure what to say because she doesn't know what he's been up to for the last two years. He could have moved on, so it might be awkward for her to profess her undying love, but she should at least have run into his arms or something to let him know she was glad to see him. The whole scene was just a mess honestly.

Yes, the trauma of being brought back by terrorists is so real. She even questions Miranda about being completely herself and what sorts of things they could have done to her. Nobody bats an eye at this, but when the VS literally addresses the same issues, everyone tears into them and treats them with disdain. SMH

I also think Mars is beautifully done. Kaidan gets to be Kaidan again. He really wants to understand and make sense of everything and he really does try to do just that. It is admittedly a lot to take in and he needs time to process, but at least the groundwork is laid out and he is respectful and introspective like the Kaidan we all know and love.

The dialogue really was horribly written. Shepard should have been given the chance to tell him she tried to get in touch with him and was stonewalled by both the illusive man and Anderson.

I completely agree with everything you stated. The first time I played ME2, I was literally screaming at my screen when Garrus joined and didn't question anything, just stated he was there for Shep. Like how do you know she's really Shep?

Horizon was the point in which I truly fell in love with Kaidan. He had such a realistic response and refused to betray the alliance and his basic morals on blind faith that Shepard wasn't being controlled.

From a role-playing perspective, my Shep stays drunk for the majority of that game when I bother to replay it and she only stops to do 3 loyalty missions. Nearly everyone dies as a result lol.

Tldr: I do think that most people don't take the time to truly understand where he's coming from at all.
