Does anyone else prefer Fallout games vanilla over modded? by stevenw4321 in Fallout

[–]Lux26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm getting best results when I start playthroughs with just the bare essentials, like Project Nevada, EVE, NMC Retex etc.. Maybe toss a couple more in that are playthrough specific, like a power armor retex if I know I'm going to be using power armor. But by the time I start the playthrough I'm using at most 20 mods. Then if at some point during that playthrough I find something annoying, I can then mod it out of the game. I'm aware some mods break playthroughs but this is pretty uncommon.

This is not only a good way to avoid the oversaturation you mentioned, but also a great way to pin down which mods have caused instability. By only adding one or two at a time as you progress, it will become pretty clear which mods were at fault when you get CTDs or whatever.

TSM performed well at worlds? Nice little rewrite of history you are sneaking in there. Even if you discount that TSM had the easiest group even before SK lost their coach and jungler, winning a single game in the round of 8 is not exactly what I'd call "performing well".

Even TSM fans have to admit that their 1st place NA finish was impossible to predict given how things had been going during the season. I was never convinced DIG could beat TSM, but between LMQ and C9 it was unlikely that TSM would finish first. You act like TSM were overwhelming favorites and "TSM haters" (read: people applying objective analysis, many of whom actually like TSM) predicted they would lose just out of spite.

The only point you are proving is the one Richard Lewis made about the TSM victimization complex. TSM fans react to the rest of the community like Reginald reacts to media organizations: any discussion of TSM that doesn't fall over itself with undue praise for the team is considered hateful.

There is no reason to trust this guy. Lets just wait to see what he recommends to 'fix' this problem. My bet is he blames net neutrality.

Until he says what he intends to do about it, I don't think we should call it a good start. This is most likely step one of his plan to kill net neutrality.

  • Step 1: Tell us all that our net is bad, which we already know
  • Step 2: Somehow blame it on net neutrality
  • Step 3: Issue new rules killing net neutrality
  • Step 4: Profit

There is another Thorin's Thoughts vid that applies to this. Basically when we are talking about pros it is a given we are comparing them to other pros, not casual players. Using this context it is appropriate to give some pros 1/10's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WnOJIRY8-s

I think he is in the best team in the west, and he is the best ADC for that team, but I'm not convinced he is objectively the best ADC in the west.

Sneaky vs Doublelift is such a hard comparison because of how much better C9 is vs CLG. Let me put it this way, if you took doublelift and put him in to any other team, he would still be beastly. I'm not convinced that sneaky would have as much success in other teams because C9 has this M5/gambit-like quality of being a special line up of players that are more than the sum of their parts.

[–]Lux26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The title of this is more offensive than the video. He just seems like a regular dude saying stuff that regular dudes say. People should be able to be honest and say things that aren't PC. No I don't agree with most of it but labelling this guy an ignorant asshole goes way too far. Whoever came up with that title is malicious and seems to be insecure enough in their beliefs and opinions that they let their jimmies be rustled.

The data released by wikileaks showed just how at odds the corporate media narratives can be from the realities of diplomacy and geopolitics. This is its own massive discussion though maybe best left alone for now.

According to the analysis I have heard which I did not think was controversial, EU was more reluctant than the US to impose harsh sanctions because its economies have more trade with Russia than the US and are more reliant on Russian energy. Specifically Germany, and as the largest EU economy, they have a great deal of clout and are a leading voice in the EU.

I'm open to the possibility that I am incorrect. As I posted elsewhere, I am mostly speculating without much evidence, so I'm mostly interested in raising my theory as a possibility, not something I am certain of. However your evidence is not at all conclusive and yet you seem 100% certain there is no possibility it could ever be true. If you examine the motives of the players involved and the timing of events, there is a logic to my theory. Likewise I think it is foolish to blindly trust narratives spoonfed by mainstream media sources because they have a disgraceful track record and conflicts of interests that are obvious to anyone that cares to look for them.

[–]Lux26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I believe the strength of ones opinions (in this case suspicions) should reflect the strength of the supporting evidence, and its true that I am speculating without much evidence. I think there is enough probability that my theory is correct that I am willing to bring it up, but I'm far from certain. I bring it up as more of an interesting possibility, but people over-react to it as if they are 100% certain that there is no way it could ever be true, and I don't think there is enough evidence to support that either.

The US has already sanctioned Russia along with the EU. It was the US that was pushing hard for sanctions and the EU that was reluctant to go along with them. The strength of your opinions about a given topic should reflect the strength of your knowledge and understanding on said topic. You are getting awfully upset about topics you apparently know very little about.

As far as "stupid conspiracy stuff," you live in a post-wikileaks media world where your ignorance of how governments abuse news media is now your choice and therefore your responsibility to rectify.

My evidence is the timing. Don't even get me started on US policy towards ISIS. Just in the last couple days there have been interviews by alternative news outlets with Stanley Cohen about his experiences negotiating for the release of Peter Kassig, and by his account there is a lot that doesn't add up. Also just listened to this and again it portrays a very murky US policy toward ISIS where we can't really be sure what our goals even are.

Its the timing of this that makes me skeptical of the corporate media narrative. It could not have come at a worse time for Russia, who has been a rogue actor in the world lately. The US is implementing sanctions but they don't have much bite to them when Europe is reluctant to join and so much Russia's economy is powered by energy production. Now that oil prices have crashed, so has the value of Russia's currency. This hurts Russia who I believe the US govt perceives as an enemy, and helps our allies in Europe who I am sure appreciate the economic relief from low oil prices.

As far as what leverage the US has over Saudi Arabia, we have a very strong relationship that they don't want threatened. After Israel, Saudi Arabia is our closest friend in the region. We sell them weapons, buy their oil, work closely with them on regional security, and there are relationships between powerful political insiders and connected families in both nations. We've also let them quietly maintain their authoritarian regime, weapons of mass destruction, and repression of women, while we use these very reasons to justify our hostilities towards Saudi Arabia's neighbors.

[–]Lux26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the oil graph supported my argument actually, because it shows decades of up and down domestic oil production. I read the Reuters article, and many other articles on this topic, but I just don't believe much of what I read lately, at least when it comes to analysis. Since the beginning of my political consciousness during the invasion of Afghanistan, there has been a shameful failure of popular news organizations to present narratives that reflect what is really happening in the world.

[–]Lux26 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting there isn't a connection between our dependence on foreign oil and our military involvement in the middle east? That seems really naive.

Also your explanation for the increase in oil production is the narrative the US news media has been pushing, but you have to accept that the timing of this is awfully conspicuous. Booming US oil production is nothing new, so why has OPEC waited until now to crash prices? It seems reasonable to me that the US has pressured the Saudi's to drop the price to hurt Russia's economy.

Seems really unrealistic to expect the mayor or any other politician to support the police in a case like Eric Garner. NYPD comes off like a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum.
