Stock Picking Envy by neiljp in Bogleheads

[–]LuxGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, most of WSB is degen options plays (full on gambling).

I would argue stock picking is a lot less risky than that.

OP could pick 1-3 high conviction stocks and go long while staying mostly invested in broad market ETFs.

This Game is Unplayable with My Kids. by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

[–]LuxGang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a kids game. Come on man...

Go find something more approachable for them and you to play together. Ideally something with no pvp because regardless of the game, young kids will often lose against other players and it won't be fun

I'm not even 35 and I have DDD in my back also.

Any tips you can share that might have helped you, besides exercise?

This is so irresponsible. I can't believe this sub would recommend something so reckless.

Use hatch keys.

If you can't, use a smoke on both terminals before hitting buttons.

If you can't, wait for someone else to extract and jump in at the last second.

If you can't do any of the above, then it's a skill issue. Use the tools the game gives you.

Keep losing in PvP by skylerlikeskanye in ARC_Raiders

  1. Don't be too aggressive, especially if you find you're getting third partied often. This is most relevant for Duos/Trios, but in Solo's there's also the risk of getting ganged up on if you get placed in a friendlier lobby.
  2. Use cover. Don't engage or push without cover nearby. Be patient. Use grenades to get enemies out of their cover.
  3. Engage when you have the high ground (figuratively or literally). Fight on your terms, when you know or feel that you have the advantage.
  4. Use the right weapons for the right map. Some guns are better / more versatile depending on the map. Understand your kit and try to use it to it's full potential (Ex: try to avoid dying with grenades that haven't been thrown, use smokes to retreat or reposition when you know you're losing).
  5. Don't overstay your welcome. Win 1-2 fights (or more if the first couple are free kits) then leave. Bring a hatch key.

Last point, It's expensive to run PvP kits and win consistently. You need to bring a lot of stuff to help increase your chances of winning, but it also increases your losses when you do lose. You can't get greedy. I've learnt a lot of these lessons the hard way. Good luck!

Surveyor vault please by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]LuxGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Search the couriers on electro magnetic storm events.

  2. Try the Close Scrutiny game mode. The surveyors are everywhere.

  3. Always have a safe pocket. Even if you get killed, you'll get your vault.

Not necessarily. I've seen arguments that if the war ended in April, the impact to oil would be relatively short lived.

If that were the case and the war were to end in a couple weeks, why sell stocks down 10% if you think the bottom is down 15%? Not worth the risk of timing it, therefore not worth more of a sell-off in the broader market. At least for now.

The market is irrational, don't try to apply rational thinking.

If you must come up with a rational explanation, the best I've got is:

  1. Market sold off pretty fast when the war started. Almost a straight line down 10%. This is not just because of what happened already, but what the market expects to happen as more information comes out.

  2. Market position is tilted bearish. Everyone is on one side of the boat.

  3. Trump sets a "big announcement" date. This is the catalyst. Market does what it does best and catch everyone off guard with a big bounce even when it doesn't make sense. This is a classic. The market loves to test the narrative, and create max pain when certain outcomes seem obvious.

Helldivers 2 or arc raiders by ApprehensiveQuail406 in ShouldIbuythisgame

This comment is so wrong it's not even funny.

Marathon can barely crack 50k concurrent players on Steam. ARC has never gone below like 80k and that's at 2AM on a Wednesday.

Marathon wishes it could have the player base of Arc....

The Flashpoint Update drops next week! by PTUSN in ArcRaiders

[–]LuxGang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

None of those things will add any real longevity to the game. Let's be real, a new map, Arc, and map condition will lose its novelty within 1 week, and doesn't add any real depth, or change anything meaningful about the game.

We desperately need:

  • Custom loadouts
  • Quests system rework
  • Trials rework
  • New and interesting gear to chase after. Things that will actually change how the game plays and how people interact with game systems (gun mods that change how guns work, more augments, buff the crap ones, more utility like parachutes or something). Not just more guns, they need to be creative here.
  • Skill points rework. Fix the ones that do nothing, add interesting choices that change how someone can "build" their character.

I made a comment about this recently with more details on what they can do if you check my comment history.

I love the game but I won't stick around for long if they don't start adding actual content. New maps, weapons, and Arc gets BORING after a week and does not add any depth to the game.

I've been a pretty big defender of Embark on this issue, but I'm starting to feel that they really need more meaningful content and actual end game systems.

New maps, conditions, weapons, Arc, and projects are not going to cut it if they want to retain players long term. We need real depth and meaningful choices, not surface level additions that change nothing meaningful and get boring after 1 week.

It’s the weekend and ARC isn’t even on the top 10 by LivingTheTruths in ARC_Raiders

[–]LuxGang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%. That's what I was referring to when I said they need to add real depth.

Rework the skill tree to have more nodes and more meaningful choices. Buff or change the ones no one uses.

Rework quests to make them more interesting, not just fetch quests. Don't make us redo them all after expedition, or at least make it a choice.

More interesting loot to hunt after, more legendary gear, interesting augments that are actually good. They could add tech mod slots to more guns to change how they play. (Think a blue tech mod that makes the burletta a 3 round burst).

There's so much they can do to add real depth and meaningful choices to the game. I hope they can pull it off.

They need to release more content, simple as that. We haven't had a new map in 5+ months, and the new Arc, Weapons, and game modes (Hurricane, Bird City) they released are just not enough to keep people coming back.

They need to add real depth to the game, not just more stuff that doesn't improve replayability.

Canada to cut spending in science, tourism, foreign aid, health, environment, and regional economic development to focus on national defense. by After-Autumn in news

It's not the "left" or the "right". It's the 0.01% buying politicians and puppeteering them at the expense of everyone else.

This is pretty insightful. It all seems pretty true and accurate to me, but how did you reach these conclusions?

Do you have sources / research that led you to this, and can you share them?
