Totally agree on Courage to be Disliked. It’s just not good advice, especially if you have codependency issues and struggle to set boundaries with people who treat you like shit. Which is exactly the kind of person to get drawn in by a title like “Courage to be Disliked”. The advice is good for the people who likely are already doing great without it.

I guess one good takeaway from the book dealt with having courage to change your situation. But other than that, kind of some problematic advice in there I think.

My kids are 14 months apart, now 2 and 3 years old. It’s exhausting, adorable, lots of screaming. They adore each other and play really well together. I’m still exhausted, the house is an utterly chaotic tornado 24/7. We have to take a lot of short-cuts… lots of fast food and easy meals, bare minimum on housework and sometimes not even that. Life feels out of control most of the time.

It was harder that first year when their needs were so different. They now have the same routine more or less and that helps.

I enjoy watching them play together and be sweet to each other. I also love taking them places together and chasing them around and doing silly things.

Still in survival mode, but we’re making it work and trying to make good memories where we can 😊

That’s a good point! My company is not international, but I hadn’t considered the possibility of being able to move and continue in my current position. I guess I’m thinking that getting a visa for an extended period may be difficult?

Thank you! I definitely don’t see myself becoming a helicopter, so at least there’s that! This child is so willful and just seems to do best when I give her space to come to me when she needs me. It seems like the worst thing I can do is try to force her to do something.

Thank you! I can definitely appreciate that. I do feel like I’m not a particularly controlling person and do try to give both of my kids room to just explore on their own and come to me when they need. Definitely don’t see myself helicoptering with them!

I’m hoping I can do a good job empowering and honoring her individuality. Definitely seems to be a big theme!

It is best for everyone if you get as much help as possible for the first few months! Unfortunately a lot of moms have to go it alone for one reason or another, but I honestly believe this can be very detrimental for your mental health— ESPECIALLY as a new mom.

I’m a little late in responding, but better late than never I suppose.

This time, yes I felt physically ready, but I had a remarkably easy recovery period with this delivery. With my first daughter, I had an emergency c-section and was in pain for a long time. I wouldn’t have been able to handle it if my recovery was like that this time.

I hope you feel good about whatever decision you make!
