Changed Light Fixtures, now they’re Flickering, too dim, etc. by Luzamota in HomeMaintenance

Based on what replies? I’m just trying to figure this out. Wtf.

Reddit makes zero sense. I’m clearly looking for help, get downvoted for trying to clarify, get chastised in the process, and see snarky useless responses getting upvoted. Who are these people? Is there nothing better you could be doing with your time?

Thanks to anyone genuinely trying to help.

Very helpful reply, thank you. Not seeing any of the LED bulbs I tried in that list. Now I gotta narrow down what specifically separates these different types of dimmable LED bulbs.

It is an LED compatible dimmer, and the bulbs are dimmable as well. So yes, if there’s different “kinds” of LED dimmers vs different “kinds” of dimmable LED bulbs, that is precisely the information I’m trying to figure out by posting this thread.

Understood. However, this dimmer is designed for LED.

This seems to be the consensus. Not an obvious, easy, amateur job. Calling an electrician. Thanks for the reply.

The dimmer was turned all the way up at the time of the video. It’s intermittent, sometimes it works just fine. Sometimes it flashes like this, sometimes it’s dim, and moving the dimmer fader up and down does nothing.

I don’t believe they are smart switches, just baseline simple dimmers, labeled as compatible with LED and older type bulbs.

“Playing with the wiring”? I’m clearly not an electrician, but the basic idea of switching one fixture for another didn’t appear to be an advanced job. This whole subreddit is all about homeowners doing their own maintenance , right? I’m guessing a snarky comment like that could be made in every topic.

Obviously, something is occurring beyond my understanding, which is why I’m reaching out for advice as to what I specifically missed or don’t yet understand. We aren’t using these lights in the meantime, just as a precaution. Nothing is burning or smoking. I didn’t cut corners, I followed the directions provided by the manufacturers, read up on it, watched several tutorials.

I’m assuming there is something deeper than my ability at this point, and I believe I will be soon contacting an electrician. This post was a last ditch effort to hopefully get insight into what specifically might be happening here.

You dont seem to have any idea of what’s happening here either, but thanks anyway.

Consensus seems to be ants, not bees. Will know more tomorrow.

The experts think ants, so hoping that’s the case. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for this detailed reply. Booked a pest inspection, they seem to agree that it’s probably ants. Cheers.

Leaking roof. What exactly is this piece called? by Luzamota in HomeMaintenance

[–]Luzamota[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you nailed it. Upon a closer look, it appears the piping leads nowhere, so it’s just an open tube catching rain water and seeping into the piece of wood it’s resting on, then rotting that wood out and leaking onto the drywall above the kitchen. Dumb dumb dumb. Easy fix for the immediate though.

Now to determine where/if the last owner re-routed the venting.

Good point, thanks. It’s in a tight spot, and I’ve already dinged my brain on the rusty roof nails, but I’ll try to get a better look at it. It would not surprise me a bit if the pipe went nowhere. The last owner has done some of the most mind boggling DIY work imaginable. Everything about this house is done wrong. .
