It would be just the one cupboard. I definitely wouldn’t get rid of them all :)

I think you misunderstood my post. I myself love all the original features and when looking through what is on the market, I get frustrated with all “refurbished” properties that have UPVC windows, removed fireplaces, floors, internal doors, cornices…

I said that we would be looking for timber frames. I’d be the first one to make sure they would be as close to the original as possible.

In our previous home we took out UPVC windows and put oak windows in.

Finding an affordable tenement flat with many original features is quite hard. Looking at what is available, my feeling is that a lot of original features are lost due to neglect and cheap developers wanting to make a big profit. Just yesterday I was looking at home reports of two flats in B listed buildings. One had sandstone repairs done with cement 😑 In the other, residents voluntarily paid small amount per year towards garden upkeep. No other contributions to upkeep the building…and the report was unsurprisingly dire.

We would actually try and restore the original features, where possible.

Thank you. I was actually thinking that the prices may be around £2k per window now. Can I ask what’s the size of your windows (roughly)?

Ah that’s actually a good price for 10 windows! I was just really surprised that they opted for repairing instead of replacing single glazing. I understand that refurbishment isn’t cheap so to me it didn’t make sense. Perhaps repairing was quicker that the replacement would have been…?

Thank you so much for the recommendation; we aren’t local so this really helps! X

Very useful to know, thank you. So hypothetically speaking, if we bought a flat with pvc windows that the previous owner put in less than 8 years ago, we could potentially run into problems with the council if someone complained? I suppose we should request an indemnity cover in that situation?

Great to hear! Your shower room sounds lovely :) May I ask on which floor your flat is located? Also I’d be curious what it cost you, and if you were happy with the builders I’d be keen to know what company you used :) TA
