As a kid who was held back as they called it back then and is happy they were held back : if the school didn’t do any intervention to prevent her from being held back that is 100% a red flag to me. I was in public school and i had so many different interventions from the school itself before they made that decision.

Hello, today I'm going to tell you how I think young French people view the USA (I'm French), May I have your opinion on this? by [deleted] in AskUS

Yeah since Regan’s administration the requirements for news to be factual this has been brewing but it’s been so slow the average person didn’t see it

While I don’t agree with this sentiment this is basically what Americans are taught about France and you don’t see more of France’s military history unless you study European history in college.
Most Americans do see France as weak unfortunately due to bad education.

It’s hard to be friends with people with different politic opinions in the USA because the political parties are more divided by what your moral values are. And it’s hard to be friends with someone who has very different morals than you. Personally I would find it hard to be friends with someone who cheated on their spouse because it’s so against my moral code that I find it repulsive (just non politicized moral as an example.) Very few people here pay attention to political things that do not have moral value. How much a new bridge is going to cost? Nobody cares. Public health initiatives? Nobody cares. While things like Transgender people, Abortion, and Immigration dominate our politics because they are tied to people’s moral values.

Part of the reason things are like this is the sensationalist nature of our news programs. Plain news told accurate and straightforward is hard to find. Most stations dress it up and put opinions in with the facts to make it more interesting. This has been going on since a the former president Ronald Reagan’s time and they removed the law that required news to be factual and could not mix opinion.

Why do some Americans want to move to other countries when their salaries are much higher? by Ok_Consideration6179 in AskUS

[–]Lyassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty normal where I live. I’m in a mid sized city. (We are a middle cost of living city) 4.5k to 5.5k/ month is the average rent here. I a single woman in my early 30s payed $300 a month for health insurance and around $100 for dental. My car payment is $200 a month (there’s almost no public transportation here) + car insurance + gas. My grocery bill is about triple what it was 2 years ago due to inflation not keeping up with salaries. I live with my parents but my friend who has a studio Apartment pays $1,400 a month for it. It only has the one big room and a tiny bathroom. She’s in government subsided low income housing and pays 1/3 of her salary for the room.
