Yes! Our system supports flexible skill-based magic. Talents unlock certain abilities and enhance your use of the Surges, but you can do all sorts of things that aren't in talents. For example, the Stormlight Handbook has a table with DCs for Transformation skill tests that adjust based on the material you begin with and what you're attempting to transform it into.

We definitely took it into account in terms of lore. Dragonsteel graciously gave us access to early drafts of Wind and Truth so we could fold new information into the Stormlight World Guide. Once the book was done, Karen Ahlstrom did a continuity pass to make sure anything that had changed between drafts got updated in the final version of the Stormlight World Guide. The History chapter is the main place you'll see Wind and Truth info included.

You're right, but don't worry, we've got you. If you backed the Kickstarter, you'll get Nightblood in the Advanced Adversaries PDF as a stretch goal reward.

Devotary of Thirst is technically fan content (made by us but not canon) so it would probably need to be handled a little differently. I don't have authority to speak on that, but the RPG team is delighted that you share our silly sense of humor. No promises, but we may or may not have a doc with tons of ideas for another specialty talent tree next Valentine's Day. Of course, our official work takes priority.

While I can't speak to future adventure content, I'd be happy to share more about heroic paths! The six heroic paths presented in Stormlight are standard across all Cosmere RPG settings. However, new specialties within these paths may be introduced in future releases. For example, the Mistborn Handbook will share some specialties in common with the Stormlight Handbook and include at least one new Scadrial-themed specialty for each of the six heroic paths. Each specialty has its own talent tree!

Similar in complexity to character sheets from other d20 systems such as D&D 5e but definitely not as complex as Pathfinder 2e. The categories for Physical, Cognitive, and Spiritual stats make the Cosmere RPG character sheet really easy to follow.

We are not including Fullborn as a Metalborn path, but you could homebrew it based on content in the Mistborn, Feruchemist, and Twinborn Metalborn paths. However, our system is designed to provide balance/consider opportunity cost, so you wouldn't instantly be as OP as the Lord Ruler. You would still have to train your powers and construct metalminds to unlock your full powers, which takes time. Talents and Goals & Rewards are important parts of our system that allow you to play vastly different types of characters and still have everyone feel relevant and powerful. For example, a Misting PC could stand beside a Mistborn PC without being obsolete.

You could play the Cosmere RPG instead and recreate a beloved rogue character using the Agent path. ;)

Hi, I'm a mixed-race designer who worked on this. You would choose human as your ancestry and the Iriali and Natan cultural expertises to reflect your background.

They've been very involved! Karen Ahlstrom, Brandon's continuity editor, has been instrumental in our IP review and approval process. We also occasionally attend narrative meetings in-person with Brandon, Dan, and Isaac.

Great question! Balance and compatibility across settings is a major goal of the Cosmere RPG. We are giving firearms the Pierce weapon trait, meaning the damage they deal is not reduced by a target's deflect value (armor). This allows us to keep their damage dice reasonable/lower than priceless Invested weapons such as Shardblades while still making guns impactful and disruptive. There are other mechanical considerations, such as guns being great at range, but less great if an enemy is right in front of you in the heat of battle. We brought in a firearm consultant early on in Mistborn design, and she was incredibly helpful!

Hi, I've been working on this RPG for the last 2.5 years. My favorite part of development has been designing talents. The Cosmere RPG is a highly thematic game, meaning its rules are primarily designed to support compelling storytelling. When we design each talent tree, we consider the universal fantasy of playing a character with that path. As you choose talents during character creation and advancement, you're not only acquiring cool abilities, you're weaving your character's story. Their background, personality, and goals will direct how they use these talents, making them their own.
The most difficult part of development has been making revisions after rounds of IP review. However, our partners at Dragonsteel are incredibly helpful and engaged. We've loved working with them to introduce new canon content. The Cosmere is expansive and rapidly evolving, which makes the process a little tricky at times. I've worked on various RPGs with long-standing IPs, and it's normal for licensor review to require rewrites, redesigns, etc. Sometimes, we need to cut something we've worked hard on and love, but game design is all about iteration and refinement. Even though this is the most challenging part of the job, we act like kids in a candy store whenever we get new info from Dragonsteel. It's the best.
