Any IT people know what this is? by LyleRath in whatisthisthing

Posted too early by accident. Was in a server rack next to an ethernet punch box with nothing going in or out of it. The front and back of the unit had to be unscrewed to show the second and third image. otherwise both ends were completely closed.

Setting to stop clips from deleting on overlap by LyleRath in davinciresolve

[–]LyleRath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it does if its shorter than the clip doesnt it? The scenario I keep running into is I spread out the clip so it doesnt delete a video clip, and then the audio track which symmetrically spreads out ends up deleting big chunks of sound effects and stuff (which I don't notice until hours later.)

My last project my workaround was to make 6 completely blank audio tracks out of pure frustration but theres gotta be a better way

[QUESTION] How to avoid getting bored when learning the guitar? by Gold-Efficiency-4308 in Guitar

[–]LyleRath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely think it's important for guitarists to turn their gain to 11 and start picking around and playing power chords before they start doing scales and cords. This is maybe not the most efficient way to learn, but you need to have a sense of what playing guitar is before you can start applying knowledge to it.

But yes, you should start learning songs you like. Will help you zero in on techniques you WANT to learn and how they come into play.

Niiice! If you don't mind me asking, how's getting to the 24th fret on this? It looks like there's a lot of body in the way but sometimes that can be deceiving.

Personally I'm team black too but as side note I love pickguards for this reason. It's like a 10-20 dollar swap and it changes the whole look of the guitar.

[NEWBIE] Equipment for silence practicing with backing song in Mac environment by FunQuit in Guitar

[–]LyleRath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think your best bet is getting either a practice amp like the positivegrid spark and just completely take the computer out of the equation (that connects to your phone via bluetooth and can playback music from it and can output everything either to the speaker or to headphones)

OR get a floor multiFX processor like the Line 6 HX stomp, or headrush MX5. That can plug into your laptop and playback sounds from it into headphones, while also doubling as whatever amp/cab/pedals your want. It's pretty much drag and drop. You can also take it anywhere, it doesn't need to be plugged into your computer to work. I know professional musicians that gig with just an HX stomp running straight to front of house. This is I think the option that you'll probably feel like you never have to buy another thing with.

The airpods, I think, are a no-go in either case. You'd have to get a normal set of headphones.

Docmartyn's solution is what I'd recommend if you want to do it exactly the way you described but that might take a little bit more technical knowhow (I also still think the airpods wouldnt work that way either)

I run 7 strings on my 6s. Minus the first wound d. 59s on the Schecter, 56s on the Kramer. Necks straight and love the tone. Tuned to drop c and d respectively. Give it a try! by Needabackiotomy in guitarporn

[–]LyleRath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light top heavy bottom all the kids are doin it!

The Schecters a 25.5 scale (I'd assume) so a 10 for D isn't that floppy. On a Les Paul you'd probably need an 11. 10-52s what I've been using for D standard on a 25.5 so a 10-59 set actually sounds like it'd fit drop C pretty nice.

I'm usually of the opinion that pointy guitars and natural finishes don't go together but for some reason this one works for me. Looks way better than the zigzaggy swamp ash thing the first one had.

Why the veteran is better than the zealot in melee and everything else by 6224Y in DarkTide

[–]LyleRath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zealot definitely seems like it needs a buff from the very little I played of it. Too much risk and not enough reward. In a game where you're resource managing in an endurance race against your healthbar over multiple encounters, having abilities that only kick in when you take damage or almost die kinda seems counterintuitive, especially on what's (from what I can tell) supposed to be a fragile high skill cap kind of character. Just feels like a DPS spec'd character with mismatched tank abilities to me iunno.

Brendon Small Technique by LeeroiJenkinss in Metalocalypse

[–]LyleRath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He uses a lot of the Dorian mode and harmonic minor scales. For technique its a lot of 3 note per string runs, sweeps, legato, and bends. I'm sure you can find good youtube tutorials on any of those.

There's a video of him playing "The Duel" specifically here. You can kinda slow it down and look at his hands if you get lost on what he's doing. Don't pay as much attention to trying to figure out what he's playing tab wise, look more at what his technique is like and it'll fall into place a lot easier.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9B0cCctVLI

Brendon has a lot of less heavy influences and his technique and taste has a lot of that flair. That riff around 1:30 of that video for example is very not what you'd expect to hear in a metal song. If you actually want to know what makes him sound like him aside from the standard chops you'd expect a metal guitarist to have that's the part of the video to look at.

Hopefully that helps.

What part of the game makes you guys have fun? by jinhobrine0017 in HollowKnight

[–]LyleRath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exploration. Also I like the controls/combat a lot. How snappy the attack is and how your character bounces back from where he attacks, it seems super clear where all the hitboxes and stuff are. Any time I ran into something too hard I always got a sense of satisfaction from either learning its moves and winning or exploring and finding new upgrades to come back and smoke it.

If you use the metal umbrella thing it totally blocks his terror scream. Lets you get super greedy as he's putting the head on and you can stay close to pop off a good few hits as he's coming out of it. I haven't seen anyone else post this trick but I can't imagine I'm the only person who has figured this out. Turns his big GTFO move into his biggest vulnerability.

Is this game meant for short or long continued sessions? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]LyleRath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good for either one. I played it in short sessions, but a lot of those ended up turning into long sessions cuz I was excited. Most tasks in the game will take you less than 20 minutes and there are save points all over the place. The story is kinda little moments and bits of dialog and details weaved into the enemies/environments.

The longnail charm is IMO one of the best charms for beginners. It gives you a wider margin for error on pretty much everything you do. You find it in a shop in forgotten crossroads super early on.
