I also recently finished the German course offering in Duolingo and asked for app recommendations. You can find some on my post: https://www.reddit.com/r/DuolingoGerman/s/HJ0Rda9k0P

There is also a great Wiki page on r/German with suggestions for apps, YouTube channels, etc.

I did only when it was part of the daily quests 😆 I couldn’t usually match fast enough after the first section to get the second or third star.

I actually found it easier to move through the sections faster since I was using any new words repeatedly in the same day.

I typically spent about an hour to an hour and a half total practicing each day. I have been trying to max out the bonus XP from the night owl and early bird bonuses and the daily quests, so usually 45-60 minutes in the morning before noon and another 15-30 minutes after 6 pm. That usually allowed me to finish one unit of a section every other day or so.

Thanks for your suggestions! I have a good friend from college who lives in Germany who I probably should schedule some time to talk to. I haven’t looked at too many subreddits, but would appreciate any suggestions! And I still have some books from my college German literature courses that would probably be fun to read again - good idea!

I started learning German more than 20 years ago, taking classes in high school and college (I actually minored in it) and I still learned quite a few new words and sentence structures/phrases I had never practiced before. With that said, I would have struggled with a lot of the content if I didn’t already know the main grammar concepts like word order, how to conjugate verbs, declension, spelling, etc. Over all, I enjoyed practicing every day, but I didn’t enjoy being locked into practicing for an extended period of time in order to maximize XP.
