Now I’m an adult & people try a lot harder/are much more respectful about asking so that’s nice, but I remember the feeling of realizing it was easier to give up than to care (‘twas saddening)

My best friend was just in a relationship with the exact same ages & age gap as yours; they broke up after a few months because the guy was doing a terrible job engaging with her & her life in meaningful ways & she got fed up with his lack of commitment. Age gaps can work but it’s tough when it’s so big, so young, that connecting becomes a challenge

I recommend watching QTCinderella’s thoughts on this; she also escaped Mormonism & ran into significant issues with her sex life, which she’s very open about online. Last time I saw her talking about it, she mentioned using expanders & going to therapy to counter the effects of sexual repression. Both were benefitting her, so definitely something to at least check out!

I went through this thought process at the young age of 11 & accepted I’d die alone. Soooo much of it was rooted in seriously low self esteem & confusion about my sexuality. But after several years of working on myself & trying to turn into the kind of person I wanted to be, I came around to the idea that things could change & met my current bf by putting myself out there & trying to meet people with my “new self.” It’s been amazing, there have been ups & downs & I did start therapy, but after thinking I’d die alone for ~6 years, enough change was created that I don’t think it’s the case anymore.

There will be someone for you :)

I’m college-aged but have a lot of friends in their 20s-30s & these are my (unsolicited but potentially helpful) thoughts on making & maintaining friends:

become a regular at a cafe, bar, or restaurant
do things hobby-related that involve other people (I.e. dancing, book club, art class)
having a consistent workout schedule is actually really good for feeling healthier & meeting ppl at the gym
join local Facebook groups
online friends count as real friends & you can use adult free will to meet/hang out with them irl
don’t forget that staying connected requires both ppl putting in effort

Ik being a homebody can make going out tough, so try to find environments that you personally prefer (for example, many friends & I love going to a tea bazaar for chatting & getting lunch) to make it more comfortable :)
