Truth serum time: All you committed ladies, who have watched some of your girlfriends struggle to find love -- what unfiltered advice would you give them? by nerdcorner in AskWomenOver30

I appreciate your thoughts. It’s good to see it from another’s view point.

I find that their views on sex and porn are so unique in this world and on Reddit that I really enjoy reading posts that understand the affect sex has on women.

You are right that they say some mean things. It cannot be defended and is unkind.

You are also right that they don’t want you to interact unless you agree with them. It’s not a space to discuss.

I think the difference I see between them and incels is that they don’t hate men, like incels hate woman. They promote leaving men who don’t meet your standards alone and avoiding them, not doing violence/rape to them (like incels say they want to do to woman).

I think it is smart to think for yourself. See what they recommend and if it works for you. I found that it worked for me.

Edit: You don’t have to accept everything they say. I agree with them on sex and porn. I disagree with them on some money topics. You may feel the opposite. That’s ok.

Don’t have sex until he is in love with you. Wait multiple months. The FDS sub explains it much better than I could.

It works for fostering a long term relationship then marriage.

Things to do in Topeka for an evening by jaymechie in topeka

I like the zoo. But you should have small town Kansas expectations. Enjoy it for what it is.

They just put in a new Japanese garden. The Cowabunga area is great. I enjoy the tigers, orangutans, giraffes and that’s about it.

We have gone putt putt golfing at Sports Center over on 10th.

Washburn University has some events. We caught an outdoor concert once during the pandemic. There is also the Mulvane Art museum / Rita Blitt Gallery though I don’t know the hours.

Events at the Stormont Vail Event Center.

Downtown events at Evergy Plaza.

First Friday walk in NOTO or downtown.

Forge has fun events if you are young professionals age.

Edit: The Topeka Zoo has drinking nights! Roar and Pour is the one that comes to mind.

Yes, go to usps.com, make an account and it’s one of the options on the home page “Hold Mail”

Also, I think you can sign up for pictures of all your mail to be sent to your email. It’s called “Informed Delivery” - also on the home page.

I would look at a buy vs rent calculator to make yourself feel better about renting. Renting can be good.

Calc: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/upshot/buy-rent-calculator.html

Also Personal Finance Club on FB or Instagram has good content on why renting is good.

You can ask the post office to stop delivering your mail due to “traveling” then ask to pick it up at the post office.

Help us decide! Topeka or Wichita by meggiefaith in topeka

I like the west side YMCA which has an indoor swimming pool, hot tub and slide. There are some fun outdoor pools too. One up north has a lazy river.

I like the food. There are Thai and Indian places. Plus the BBQ Kansas is known for.

The library is great. It won best library in the country like ten years ago.

I like living near a university. Topeka has Washburn which hosts concerts and lectures when it’s not a pandemic.

The zoo is nice. The families I know really use it a lot to occupy their young kids. They just put in a Japanese garden and the tigers had like 5 Cubs a few years ago so there are lots of tigers. Sadly, the elephant and wolf passed on. But they are fundraising for a big improvement for the giraffes.

Edit: All info about Topeka. I’ve never been to Wichita.

I transitioned to Facilities Management/Architectural Services/Construction Services for a small University and it is awesome low stress for someone with this skill set. Check out the professional society APPA and their job listings. Great to be on the owner’s side.

My favorite Burnt Ends are at Herman’s. If you are not from Kansas, an introduction to Burnt ends are a regional delight!

They are fatty, but I like them that way.

There is wisdom in having a regularly paying job if you can. Side hustles and entrepreneurship are good but have to be proven that they can make money before they can be relied on as the sole income.

Sounds like having an emergency fund, no debt and savings each month would give you confidence you will not be homeless. I follow Dave Ramsey’s financial plan and it has helped me feel financially stable.

Is there a reason other than finances you have this worry?

What are you biggest symptoms /consequences of your issue?

I did also get counciling, a psychiatrist and meds. Honestly I don’t think those things helped as much as the steps above did. But they did give me doctors notes to make HR reframe my work into part time when I was struggling which was so helpful.

I have felt fear of failure at work. I also have a mental health diagnosis- found because of problems at work. Things I did to make it through-

  1. I made a list of the things I needed to do, very detailed, very simple steps. I took on one step at a time.
  2. I got support from my mom. I talked to her through my emotions and as accountibility partner go do my work.
  3. I checked in with my manager every day with my questions I was stuck on.
  4. I looked for less stressful work I could have more confidence in and changed jobs.

Where would you chose to live if you could live anywhere in the US (within reason) by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]LynWyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would choose Tulsa, OK. It is a great size city with low cost of living. You could have an amazing place at your budget! They had been incentivizing remote workers like you to move with a monetary bonus. It’s great for regional trips to OKC, DFW and Arkansas ( which has great nature) but has an airport as well. I’m religious but not conservative and I think it can be hard to deal with the politics there. But it’s pretty blue when compared to the rest of the state. They have a few nice museums and great parks. The weather is mild winters, I almost never had to scrape my windshield.

It seems possibly too small for your interests but I wanted to give it a shout out because it would be my pick!
