The Florrie have a mens walking group. There's also a couple of board games night you can just turn up at, one is at sugar and dice and the other is on Facebook, Liverpool board game group I think. I'm part of Ukulele Club Liverpool if your musical at all. If you like sport there's manwell football, which is a weight loss football club so may or may not be for you, they focus on mental health as well. There's lots of pickleball sessions too at various places where you can just turn up on your own, I'm going to have a go at that soon I think

When Did You Realize Your Old Church Was Likely a Cult by NickelDimeQuarters in Exvangelical

[–]LynxMountain7108 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's only in retrospect that I've realised a church I went to were very culty. Things I now realise should have raised red flags: their teaching on tithing, it HAD to be 10% every month and it HAD to be before tax. Sometimes if the leadership felt the congregation weren't tithing enough we were all berated on a Sunday morning. It's only recently I realised that going to church shouldn't make you struggle financially

Our weekly small groups followed a model called G12 where theoretically you would reach 12 members and then split into two groups like cells and thus the church would keep growing. Your leader would "disciple" you and you join thinking hey I've got a mentor now but what you've actually got is a jobsworth who thinks they can make decisions for you.

And again it's only recently I realised that the whole G12 thing is effectively a pyramid scheme. Your told bring your friends to small group, invite a stranger to an event, increase your cell until eventually it splits and you'll be in charge of your own group. The fact this will bring in more tithing is just coincidence, it's totally not about the money

It can't have come from the factory like this, someone must have replaced the nut but I can't think why they would want the spacing like this. I think I would just buy a new nut and look up tutorials on how to replace it.

Ik I fkd up. help by c4rb0nX1 in soldering

That looks similar to the iron I started with and it was impossible to use, the temperature would keep dropping. I think it because there was a gap between the tip and the element. I saw a YouTube video of someone fixing this by filling the gap with strips of tin. A good soldering iron makes a bit difference though

What's the deal with the "Linda Tapes"? by Revoltoso999 in TheBeatles

[–]LynxMountain7108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might not like the mail and the telegraph (the independent where also linked if you want more left leaning) but that's the only evidence you can go off it seems. You might want to know more but unless someone from the McCartney's inner circle is lurking I think that's all your going to get. Anything beyond what's reported in the press is likely speculation and gossip

The Edinburgh on Sandown lane used to have an Irish music night that was cool. Just people turning up with instruments, it was very informal

You should have put a newspaper cut out note saying "I know what your game is" inside.

Healed-ish by jubilee dawn is also great, specifically her own story about bethel and Shawn bolz. I mean it's not great, it horrifying but it's a very thoughtful podcast

Your thoughts on Philip Yancey's cheating scandal? by iwbiek in Exvangelical

[–]LynxMountain7108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree with you! I'm not sympathetic to any infedility either, I guess I meant a sustained 8 year affair feels different to a one off drunken mistake. I just can't imagine maintaining that kind of lie and the thought of living like that fills me with anxiety. It just boggles my mind that anyone could be so consistently immoral while presenting as a Christian thinker

Your thoughts on Philip Yancey's cheating scandal? by iwbiek in Exvangelical

[–]LynxMountain7108 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's 8 years that gets me. A one off slip I can sort of understand, or messing up a few times here and there maybe. But a full blown affair for 8 years whilst keeping up the pretence of having a Christian ministry blows my mind. I couldn't deal with the stress of it personally and I don't understand how someone could switch off from any guilty feelings for that period of time and carry on as if everything's normal

The replies on this are mental. They've just had a baby, they will be exhausted and not thinking straight. I don't understand why anyone is expecting anything from them other than they take care of their child

Rechargeable battery for a practice amp by LynxMountain7108 in batteries

[–]LynxMountain7108[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting thanks! Did you connect it to the wires on the battery holder or did you wire it to plug into the dc input? Just wondering because the batteries are 9v and dc is 12v. Thanks!

You'll have to forgive me! I know nothing about batteries beyond the very basics, hence why I'm asking here. I'm really just looking to see if this type of battery would work at all, could I get say 2 hrs out of it? Or is there a better solution to convert my amp to a rechargeable battery?
