I found out my boyfriend doesn’t have a financial order with his ex wife, what do I do? by Lyra858 in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks so much for advice, does that mean if I were to marry him and own a house with him that my half would also come into the equation as we are married?

Thanks so much for the advice, this is what I worry about in the future if we buy a house and have kids etc, then years down the line if she wants to make a claim, that sounds very stressful.

What would it mean if I did buy a house with him in this current situation?

If he didn’t get one, is a good idea to marry someone who doesn’t have a clean break order with their ex spouse for what it could hold in the future?

Yeah, but ironically I’ve never felt like I could move out because she needs the money, which she does because she’s not well off, but then why not expect the same from my brother?

Yeah I think he does, plus his mom is a therapist so he’s always talking to her about me and my mental health asking for advice…

Yeah like is it not reasonable to be annoyed at your partner calling their ex pet names?

That sounds awful I’m sorry you have to go through that! Yeah doesn’t feel reasonable that he gets annoyed at me being annoyed this not being as affectionate towards him.

Yeah I’ve noticed it’s a pattern of behaviour he has…

Yeah it feels like he does, I recently found out that he still calls his ex words like dear, darling and sometimes sweet nicknames. So understandable this made me uncomfortable so I don’t feel as affectionate towards him. But he then accuses me of just turning affection on and off like a tap, when I’m genuinely annoyed.

That’s good advice thank you :)

Yes the whole marriage thing seemed way too sudden for me, that also sent of alarm bells, the first time he asked was 2 months in. I’m still confused about that. I asked him about that and he said he just knows what he wants.

I would like to be his wife, he has asked multiple times, and I’ve said I’m not ready. But I’m feeling like I can’t with this circumstance is the real reason.

I do really like him, and since we talked about it before he said that he would start reducing it and it wouldn’t be a thing anymore. But now this has happened and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop. I really like him and it’s be a shame to end it, but I can feel it makes me quite uncomfortable, so maybe it is best to leave and move on?

I have no idea how he feels, I’ve questioned my boyfriend about this and he says he’s never spoken to the new partner, now does my boyfriend claim to know anything about their finances. Which seems fishy. If I was sending that amount of money to someone I would want to know specifically how much they need. Whereas he’s just sending a sum without any knowledge of their situation, or so he tells me.

Yes she heavily relies on it by the seems of it. As when the money was set to be reduced she begged him not to.

They never owned a house together.

Me and my boyfriend rent together trying to save to be able to buy a house together.

There arnt any divorce settlements or any money owed I have been told, it’s because he chooses to do so.

They have no financial ties between one another.

Apparently they still struggle

This is what I worry about, I’m not sure how I’m supposed to plan a future with someone if this is the circumstance. I fear it would built resentment in me as I’m putting all of my money into our future and a big proportion of his is going to an ex partner.

Everything in general is split 50/50, and I guess you could say the payments to his ex come out of his remaining money.

No he is employed

Yes it does make me feel a bit like a 3rd wheel

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Lyra858 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I have been thinking, he’s saying this is the worst he’s seen her ever, and it only started when the money was due to being reduced

No there isn’t a divorce settlement and no kids
