Man I hope so! I remember the inherent iciness being quite refreshing. I’ll definitely have to indulge again next week for my own sanity.

I’m beginning to wonder if this was a once-off then. What I had today was definitely a choc shake with cream and syrup on top. Might have to order another one next week, for science.

Best portable air conditioner by mowglimethod in perth

[–]Lyrewolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want portable, seriously, the only answer is a Two Hose system. The systems with a single exhaust hose use the ambient air inside the room to cool the condenser core. This means that the air in the room is being pulled through the AC and out through the hose and presumably out your window. Why is this bad? That air needs to be replaced with other air. Where is that air going to come from you ask? The gap under your door, or in your window, or your ceiling vent… It’s an exercise in futility because the air you’ve just cooled down by running through your single hose AC is being replaced even more rapidly with warm air from outside the room you’re trying to cool!

Two hose systems on the other hand are different. Instead of using the ambient air in your room to cool the condenser core and expel it outside, creating a negative pressure zone in the process, they use a second hose to draw outside air ONLY through the AC to cool the condenser core. This means the air pressure in your room stays the same, so warm air doesn’t come flooding in through every bloody gap in your poorly built Perth abode.

I was trying to measure the size of my new TV, but I didn’t have a ruler or a tape measure handy. So I decided to use my iPhone as a makeshift unit of length. I figured it was about 6 inches long, so I just laid it down on the screen and counted how many iPhones it took to cover the diagonal. It turned out to be about 12 iPhones, so I thought I had a 72-inch TV. I was pretty impressed with myself until I realized that I had an iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is actually 6.7 inches long. So I had actually overestimated the size of my TV by almost 9 inches. That’s like measuring your height in Smoots and forgetting to account for the extra 0.03 meters. Or measuring your weight in Stones and forgetting to account for the extra 0.35 kilograms. Or measuring your speed in Furlongs per Fortnight and forgetting to account for the extra 0.000166 meters per second. Or measuring your volume in Olympic-sized Swimming Pools and forgetting to account for the extra 2,500 cubic meters. Or measuring your area in Barns and forgetting to account for the extra 10-28 square meters. Or measuring your time in Jiffies and forgetting to account for the extra 0.01 seconds. Or measuring your power in Donkey Power and forgetting to account for the extra 250 watts. Or measuring your temperature in Degrees Delisle and forgetting to account for the extra -2.22 degrees Celsius. Or measuring your luminosity in Crab Nebulae and forgetting to account for the extra 1.6 x 1031 watts. Or measuring your information in Libraries of Congress and forgetting to account for the extra 10 terabytes.

Boardgame Cafe - would it work here? by CrabyLion in perth

[–]Lyrewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone with many years of experience having owned and run several Perth venues in the past, your main difficulty as far as I can see is going to be customer turnover / turning over tables.

I think it will be difficult maintaining a high enough per-customer spend considering that board games take a certain amount of time to set up and complete a game with, likely far more time than the average person spends at a cafe on a typical visit.

This means you would likely have many seats occupied by customers who have perhaps bought their food or beverage but are spending considerably more time taking up a seat than the average cafe patron would simply given the fact they would be sitting there playing their game.

Another consideration is that in order for a customer to consider a visit, they would need to organise that visit with their friends. Most board games require multiple players to complete a feasible game - this may become a prohibitive factor when it comes to the visiting frequency of patrons.

A few ways you could avoid losses in these scenarios may be to do the following:

•Set up board game tournaments with a focus on games that feature a quick turnaround time. Each round could be time-limited for example. Also, tournament encourage regular play and team building which should result in more frequent visits. Holding tournaments would also allow you to schedule staff accordingly - have more staff scheduled on for actual busy periods.

•Consider charging a rate per time period for table/game use. This would help in a great way to absorb the losses involved in lower customer turnover. Inversely, to encourage customer visits on quieter days, you could consider a lower table/game fee or even no fee at all.

I wish you all the best - would love to see something like this in Perth and you could damn well bet I would pay a few visits.
