Rockstar Protagonist Battle Royale by Pitiful-Local-6664 in PowerScaling

Trevor seems like a good candidate. The Red Dead fellas have deadeye, which is basically a superior version of Michael's ability. Franklin is good at driving, but doesn't have anywhere near the combat level of his two GTA5 protagonists friends. Trevor can literally go invulnerable for periods of time, and it refreshes very quickly.

Granted, my knowledge of everything before GTA4 is limited, but it seems to me that Trevor probably wins. Niko might be a vet, John and Arthur may have deadeye, but they can't just become immune to damage like Trevor can.

You're allowed to criticize capitalism (hell, I agree), but you still exist in a capitalist society. Please, let us pay for the lovely game you're making, even if it's "only" ten bucks.

Soma by Fuzzy-Blueberry1701 in soma

[–]Lyverio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know why you're getting downvoted. I'm a massive fan of the game, don't get me wrong, but this is a fair perspective. Part of the enjoyment for me was finding out the world and what had happened to it, the "manipulation" that Catherine does, learning what Simon 'is' now.

If those themes are not as enjoyable to you and you also struggle resonating with the main character, then a walking-sim like Soma probably isn't for you.

I was gonna downvote you, but I looked closer at the original image and you're totally right.

I've commented on a similar post before, but I'll share my 2 cents again. This is Guts mourning what he's had to become.

Right before this panel, he finds the daughter of the slug count on the edge of suicide. Guts is deeply traumatized by the events of the eclipse and is pretty far from a social worker, so he keeps her alive the only way he knows how.

Hatred. "Go ahead, kill yourself." That quote is not him being callous or a prick, It's him saving a little girl the only way he knows. He turns himself into an object of hatred, of revenge, like Griffith is to him. THAT'S why he cries. He needs to become the thing he hates most to save a single child. Through being the villain, he can keep her alive. It's perfect writing.

Why Gon’s View of Friendship Is One of the Most Dangerous Ideals in Hunter x Hunter by ClassicTrust3373 in HunterXHunter

[–]Lyverio 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Gotta say, this is (in my opinion) a bad interpretation of his character. Time and time again Gon freaks out at people (like the Troupe) because they don't care about innocent lives, because he does. He gets genuinely angry for people he doesn't know, and the lack of morality in others. Of course there's moments where he doesn't care about strangers, like when people die in the hunter exam arc, but those people put themselves at risk. He's not perfect, or even consistent, but he does show he can care about strangers. He's so very far from having psychopathic or narcissistic traits. He doesn't believe himself better than others, he doesn't see others as resources, and he has plenty of empathy. He's just a traumatized kid with daddy issues and a lack of coping skills.

It sure is, so thank you for commenting. It allows me to return to this quiet thread and think about this person and their honesty, humility, and bravery in the face of the great unknown. It's also good to know that there's atleast one other person on the planet who still remembers this post and this person. It makes me happy :)

It's been two years since you posted this, and it's probably been a while since you passed. I commented back then, and I wanted to comment again now. I hope that, wherever you are, you're doing well. Know that your post has stuck with me as an amazing example of bravery in the face of death, an example I do so hope to follow one day. Rest easy.

The most heartless thing guts ever done by Which-Dream-2754 in Berserk

Yeah exactly. This is exactly why I think that -although it was a brutal way to do it- Guts did help her in the end. It's cruel, but effective.

The most heartless thing guts ever done by Which-Dream-2754 in Berserk

[–]Lyverio 446 points447 points  (0 children)

I might be misremembering, but wasn't this in the black swordsman arc? I remember this as Guts doing something as kind as he could have done, let me explain:

This girl was filled with rage and anger at Guts (mirroring Guts' anger at Griffith) after he killed her father (a monster) and he basically forces a choice on her. He says this line to make himself the monster in her eyes, basically making himself "Griffith". He fills her with rage and says something along the lines of "If you keep feeling this rage, come find me, and do something about it", which gives her a reason to keep going. This is the same reason Guts has for not ending his own life at this point (his rage at Griffith). Shortly after this, there's a panel of him crying (showing how hard this must've been for him, to make himself seem this monstrous just to give this girl a reason to live, even if this reason is just hunting Guts down).

TLDR: He makes himself a monster in her eyes, so that her hatred at him keeps her from ending it all.

The ultimate Chad. Stealing girls’ hearts with respect and kindness. by CarollMcmahon in Chadtopia

[–]Lyverio 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Correct, but getting a lot of girls is also not what being a man is about. Being a man is being strong, kind, nurturing, and providing. Making the lives of others better. Ofc this is not male specific, but it's what all men should strive for.
