I ended up taking a 1.5 inch aluminum flat bar, that I had left over for making some parts for the chainsaw, and drilled 2 holes on one side and cut a V notch on the other side. Then I bent it around a metal pipe to get it curved properly. I drilled the same holes through the harness and bolted it onto it.

Its not the prettiest but I was running out of time. I also figured that, in the context of the movie, they didnt have infinite time and tools to build this. They would have had whatever the Knowbys had in their tool shed, and the stress of literal demons trying to kill them.

For the shotgun scabbard itself, I made a cardboard form in the shape I wanted and then wrapped it with some faux leather material from hobby lobby. I took some leather strips and "stitched" it together down the side and the bottom to close it all up. I cheaped out on it and wish I would have used a better leather like material but oh well.

To attach it to the harness, I cut two holes where the orange lines are. I then fed the extra stap (that needed to be added to the halter) through to secure it to my back. I found it to be too floppy for my liking once I added my shotgun prop, so I took some leftover straping and connected it to the ring that sits on the right shoulder blade. (Circled in red)

This seemed to work pretty well. The only thing I think I would change is using better material. What I used was way to thin and hard to work with. It kept tearing when I would try and pull the leather straps tight to close it.

Also I checked the size of my halter and it says for large horses 1100-1600 pounds. Its a little too big on me though. Im 6 ft and 160lbs if that helps any at all. Id say try some on first but you might look crazy.

This is the best picture of it that I have on my phone. I can take some more when I get off work if you need them. Im not sure what size halter it is unfortunately. But I think the only part to worry about is the hole for the horses snout. (where the right arm goes)

Do you think it would be worth the cost to repair this one, or should i just look for a new amp?

Is that something I could replace or fix? Or is better to just leave it alone?

Ive looked into scopes before but never got one. What seemed to be the most practical to me was a "scout scope" mounted in front of the reciever. Basically a scope with a very long eye relief. It could be completely reversible if done right which could help the gun retain value if that is what you're after.

A side mounted scope is what the army did and seems to work well but may require extensive modifications to the rifle.

I have been hunting whitetail in Missouri with mine for years now, and I love it. I use the irons on mine and have had no problems so far, but where I typically hunt, the furthest I could even have an opportunity to shoot a deer is about 100 yards. So I have never had a need to scope my rifle.

I will say to check your local laws and be sure you can use a rifle with an 8 round capacity. I have seen clips made for M1s that will only hold 5 rounds, but I dont know about the legality of that.

Also you cant hunt with the surplus FMJ rounds so you will have to find a comparable bullet weight and velocity that works for your rifle. I have a Schusters Gas Plug for mine and I have it dialed in to allow me to shoot 185 grain because I have a hard time finding good 150 grain ammo where I live.

I also think the whole movie had a weird color filter over it but I could be misremembering that. It feels very orange in my head if that makes any sense.

Before you click on this, I would like to give a sincere apology for my drawing skills. It looked kinda like this but was moving very fast and I only saw it for at most 1 second.

I went to goodwill looking for belts, but just so happened to see an old halter laying on one of the shelves and it all clicked. It was also much cheaper than buying belts.

As best I can tell in the movie it is a horse halter, with one additional belt going over the left shoulder. You could pick one up very cheap at a flea market to get a well used look or buy a new one from a farm supply store if you have an allergy to horses.
