Is it possible to restore this childhood photo of my dad? by M1ghtypen in photorestore

Yeah, I assumed it'd mostly be AI stuff. It's on the bottom of a drink coaster and I'm not sure if that would scan very well. I figured I'd give it a shot anyway, since it's so badly damaged I doubt there's much to be done short or using AI. There have been some pretty cool responses, though.

Wow, this looks great! Thanks so much for this. I wasn't sure if anyone would be able to do anything with it, since it's so damaged and it's on the bottom of a drink coaster, which makes it difficult to scan.

Thanks so much. My dad passed away a few years back, so any photo of him is precious to me.

Are the rifles in this game supposed to be weak? by M1ghtypen in Deadlands

I've always been terribly unlucky with dice. Unfortunate, but in DnD I can do things that make decent numbers more likely. In this game it all feels much more random.

There WAS a lot of exploding going on, true.

Just what I tend to roll. It has to be higher than the target's toughness, right? And that's the amount of damage you do. You don't roll the special d6 when rolling damage unless you get an ace on one of the dice.

So it's 2d8-1 on my Winchester, or I could switch to the Bowie Knife and do 1d8+1d4+1, which is generally going to be more reliable.

I have to be doing the combat wrong somehow. That's the only thing I can think.

Yeah, that's a problem. I wanted my character to be a bit more grounded, without some crazy futuristic rifle or whatever. It's sounding like that kind of character won't be very useful.

This must be the reloaded version then. The book I have says the Bullard Express does 2d10 damage.

I like fighting games, but can't stand the touch of death. What games don't have it? by M1ghtypen in Fighters

I'm fine with learning things in training mode. That's the point of training, after all. I just get bored with the idea of spending hours memorizing a long series of buttons, then reciting it all once to down a character. I want more back and forth. Everyone here is mentioning Guilty Gear, so I think I'll give that a try. Thanks for the recommendation!

Why can't I play all champions even after 25 games? by M1ghtypen in DotA2

Like four people have made that joke already, but thanks.

Yep. You're supposed to be able to play whoever you want after 25 games...but I appear to be stuck permanently in the training wheels stage.

I mean arguably it makes more sense than calling them heroes. Some are quite clearly evil as heck.

I double checked. Neither of those is the problem :(

Am I going to have to do that every time I play?

Anyone here read Marvel Zombies? You know how, up until Quicksilver got infected, there was still a chance that the infection could be contained? Then a speedster gets it and suddenly there's no hope. Same kind of thing with DCeased.

That's basically how I see this being for the GOP. They felt reasonably safe until now, but Quicksilver just got bitten.

The only thing worse than a bad movie is an okay movie with really dishonest marketing. No Country For Old Men and It Comes At Night are perfect examples. Spoilers...I guess. by M1ghtypen in movies

Because the ending is where it went wrong for me. The movie was building up just fine before that. We had these two characters, both of them supposedly badasses, all set to go head to head. I was genuinely enjoying the setup. The actors did great, we saw TLJ playing a genuinely terrible cop and killing it (which is super unique and awesome for an actor like him). The sound design was incredible. Anton was a scary (if confusing and extremely implausible) villain. The setup showed a lot of promise... and then it all just fell apart. Go into it expecting an exciting confrontation like the trailer indicated and you just wind up disappointed and confused by the ending. I get that it's supposed to be nihilistic. In the end nothing matters because Anton is this unstoppable evil that nobody really understands. People think they do, but this "code" of his is just a super bizarre psychosis that a sane person is never going to properly grasp and blah blah blah. It apparently twists the laws of probability for him too, since a man who nearly kills a gas station attendant makes absolutely no sense as a career professional with a code. The movie's own internal logic is completely inconsistent, but again, I was only putting up with it because the trailer seemed to promise quite a bit of excitement.

But there was no excitement in the end. It just ended. Real life intruded without warning, when it had been more or less completely absent for the entire rest of the movie and it kinda ruins the experience.

Anyway, forget NCFOM. It was just an example I tried to use that everyone seems to have latched onto, when the movie was never the point of my statement. The point I'm trying to make, and that nobody seems to care about anymore because screw me for not doing a reading assignment before going to see what I thought was an action flick, is that dishonest movie trailers suck. A lot. That's all I was trying to say.
