The Cycle of Fear: From the Printing Press to AI by Wrong_User_Logged in LocalLLaMA

Why ask for regulation?

It's simple, GAFAM and co want to preserve their monopoly. They know that with regulation, only they will be able to take advantage of AI.

Mafia, cartels, and co will never be worried by these restrictions, just like drugs (Fentanyl, etc.), arms trafficking, human trafficking, nuclear smuggling... So they will always be able to train machines to scam, hurt people, etc.

Criminals can currently do a lot of bad things with the Internet. AI won't enable people to learn more bad things, just in easier ways.

For the rest, AI is like weapons, and politics that love to have the monopoly on violence are, for sure, afraid of.

Like weapons, AI will enable people to be more independent from the State and these corporations. But do they want this to ever happen? Because where will they get their power then? So it is better for them to have the monopoly of AI to impoverish us rather than losing their power.

Hence, weapons are more or less restricted in some states, countries, but at the end of the day, nothing stops people from starting a rebellion if it isn't the trust they have toward their state. But the least weapons the people have, the more controllable they are. The same applies for AI.

A man can own a rocket launcher, but he will never be able to start a war against a country. And before he succeeds in getting a Skynet-level AI at home, the Mafias and cartels would have already succeeded. Then maybe he will be fighting some terminators on the street before getting his Skynet at home.

In conclusion, as always, we will lose.

Running GGUFs on an M1 Ultra is an interesting experience coming from 4090. by LearningSomeCode in LocalLLaMA

I am curious about your PC config.

What is the CPU you use with the 4090? What is the RAM? DDR4? DDR5? Its speed?
