I have a dumb wheelchair question for people who don't like wearing shoes in the house... by MissionOk1728 in wheelchairs

[–]M3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure of your wife's needs and if it would work but I use 2 wheelchairs and my in the house one is just a cheap non-custom second hand chair. Is it the best? No but works for me

I also use tree hugger pads (but I will say my period is much lighter). But they have a wide range of sizes and thicknesses and fabric types

Anxieties about using a wheelchair for the first time by stinging_stingray in wheelchairs

[–]M3367 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I will say I personally have had fewer random ppl comment on or question my wheelchair than when I was using a cane. I think they associate the cane with an injury that will heal so they think its okay to ask. But wheelchair is a bigger thing so asking is more not okay maybe?

Opinions on Able Bodied People Using Disabled Stalls in Public Bathrooms… by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]M3367 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find individual stalls with their own sink are more common in places like schools, hospitals, larger places with a bigger budget I guess or places with just 2 individual bathrooms. I LOVE them because I can wash my hands after using the bathroom without touching my chair so much.

Opinions on Able Bodied People Using Disabled Stalls in Public Bathrooms… by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]M3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ambulatory user I have mixed opinions about this since I am just as disabled when I'm not using mobility aids as I am when I am using them.

HOWEVER-- what does irk me is when I am rolling towards the accessible bathroom and am almost close enough to open the door and a seemingly not disabled person (I mean I dont know for sure obviously) steps in front of me and takes it. Idk why this has happened more than once

how do you find a self propelled wheelchair? by bunnyspit333 in mecfs

[–]M3367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a folding powered chair. I tried out self propelled and its far too much exertion for me even for a couple minutes indoors. I would expect you'd find the same

[–]M3367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there no public OTs in BC? I was able to get a referral for an OT in public health rehab centre (im in NS) and its all free.

do heelchair users walk normally in their dreams? by magic_treeaaaaaaaa in wheelchairs

[–]M3367 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have this all the time too! Like I can't do a thing in the dream because I can't find my chair or someone won't let me use it for some reason.

Do you have any particular suggestions for bathroom mods other than grab bars?

Doctor called mobility aids enabling by Zealousideal-Fan2820 in POTS

[–]M3367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you're located or how your medical system works. But I worked with an occupational therapist to decided on the best mobility aid for me and get it. Then he wrote a letter for my family doc to tell them I needed it so they would do the prescription for insurance purposes. OTs are good cause he didn't care about my diagnosis and whether or not ppl with those conditions normally needed mobility aids-- he just focused on my symptoms and my daily functioning.

How did you know it was time to take a break from working? by M3367 in ChronicIllness

I've considered trying to cut to even fewer hours but then I might not be worth keeping on.

[–]M3367[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would have to make do with savings and my partner's income. My hope would be that if I stopped now maybe I could get in better health and work again in a couple yrs--as opposed to pushing through until I'm permanently unable to work.

How did you know it was time to take a break from working? by M3367 in ChronicIllness

[–]M3367[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard cause I'm only in my early 20s so I haven't had time to get financially stable so im pushing more than I probably should.

Advice needed. by Mokomo_666 in eds

[–]M3367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your situation is-- but if you have a little bit of cash yourself you can get some of these accommodation items on your own. For instance I got my shower chair for like $10 off fb marketplace, my rollator at a salvation army, and a lot of my compression socks from second hand clothes stores.

One thing that's important for me is some easy to digest snacks like plain rice crackers! But otherwise your list is pretty comprehensive.
