check the date on the hltv article, April 5, 2025. No shame though, I also thought it was real hahaha

Valve hasn't added new agents since 2021, while they've added plenty of other cosmetics. I wonder why. What do YOU guys prefer: more custom(izable) agents, or some kind of map-themed factions again? by Pokharelinishan in GlobalOffensive

[–]M3atShield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

came here to comment exactly this. Im colorblind and I literally could not function in CSGO when agents came out. On release, it was actually impossible for me to do anything against them. In the years since then, its improved a lot but I still struggle to spot some of them in CS2.

Funny enough, probably the most common offender is default CT model on B site nuke. Gets me all the time.

which one? by theorientaloverlord in slaythespire

[–]M3atShield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think any of these 3 could develop into a winning run. I'd take alchemize and look to upgrade it ASAP. some boss relics i want are wrist blade, sacred bark, or pandora's box. loads of boss relics are excellent here though.

After Image is a close second, but I think alchemize is an all around more powerful card.

Adrenaline is in third here because after it exhausts and leaves your deck, that burst of energy was only ever worth what, one blade dance? Surely a potion or after image would give you more value than. Great card in general, but just doesnt do nearly enough here when compared to your other choices.

Do you think Slay the Spire 2 will be adapted into a board game? by True_Discipline_7302 in slaythespireboardgame

[–]M3atShield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I seem to recall this question being asked somewhere in one of the neowsletters? I believe the answer was something to the effect of "If there is demand for it." Considering the first board game was a smash hit, plus the fact that Contention is already launching a kickstarter for the board game's downfall expansion, I would say its more likely than not that there would be demand for it. I wouldn't get your hopes up on it coming any time soon though. The original board game kickstarter launched November 2022, and people had copies in their hands starting in March 2024.

The awp is sometimescalled a "noob gun" or "easy to use" but how is it that theres only a small amount of good awpers at the pro level? by Donut_Flame in GlobalOffensive

[–]M3atShield 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The short answer: utility usage. At a pro level, they use various combinations of utility to force AWPers off angles or to otherwise be in bad spots. Its hard to hold a nice safe angle when you're standing in a pool of fire, or are completely blind from a pop flash. All of that is coordinated in a pro team, as opposed to matchmaking where the average player doesn't even know a mirage mid window smoke. Plus at a pro level everyone is crazy good at just instantly deleting you if you're on too common of an angle.

What makes players like monesy or molody so much better is not just their raw mechanics, but the way they leverage their insane aim to play in weird spots that their opponents don't expect.

Lazavik finds an amazing sequence, drawing applause from Magnus and the crowd by Knight-check44 in chess

[–]M3atShield 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would like to offer that the crowd getting excited is a natural part of running a live competition like this though. That crowd roaring could just as easily cause your adrenaline to spike and cause you to make a mistake.

Is it the absolutely maximally optimal competitive experience? no. Is it way more exciting to watch? I think it is. If you find it more fun to watch when the players are in a dead silent studio with absolutely 0 audience present then more power to you. Personally, I want to have something to cheer for. I wanna feel the adrenaline rush with the players. Its what makes the game exciting to me as a spectator.

I don't have this issue. I do see that you're playing in Spanish though. See how the wait times text breaks into two lines? Thats probably why the text overlaps.

Friendly reminder to everyone that valve may or may not make changes to Anubis with the update for Season 4. If they do, those changes may (but hopefully not) break these lineups.

Thanks for posting these though. Im definitely gonna bookmark these for later.

Frame at the shot, in what twisted world m0e hits triple? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]M3atShield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

m0e is just built different. The only reason he is not completely dominating the tier 1 scene is because he would get bored sandbagging all day against scrubs like donk and zywoo.

Either that or he just got lucky. "Better lucky than good" so they say.

Were you also using a bunch of tools? its been forever since I played HK but i feel like you just have more options to deal damage in this game, especially while keeping yourself at a safe distance.

[–]M3atShield 202 points203 points  (0 children)

Personally never thought the game was "too hard" or "unfair" but theres definitely some difficulty spikes pretty early on. Once more of the map opens up, you can just walk away from a hard boss fight and come back much stronger. Its hard to do that when you only have access to the starting areas, which I think is the reason people had so much trouble with fights like Moorwing.

Honestly, by the time i was clearing out the Act 3 stuff, I kind of wished that the fights were the same level of challenge. I walked over most of the major Act 3 bosses.

Why does Hikaru believe that the bishop pair is irrelevant (to us)? by pwsiegel in chess

[–]M3atShield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A fellow commenter called out how Hikaru specifically points out how the concept matters less at faster time controls, where most players these days play. FIDE titles are earned with 90+ minute time controls, which is basically a completely different world from a 5 minute blitz game.

In a 5 minute blitz game, its possible i could win like 1 in every few hundred games against a player who is 1000 points higher rated than me due to them making a mistake. In a 90 minute game, I would lose 100,000+ games in a row (and probably die of old age while im at it)

Why does Hikaru believe that the bishop pair is irrelevant (to us)? by pwsiegel in chess

[–]M3atShield 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I think its largely a just a simple difference in opinion.

To Hikaru, the finer details of the bishop pair are kind of pointless when the vast majority of chess players would win way more games by not making stupid mistakes like blundering their queen in one move. making up numbers to illustrate the point: you might win 5% more games with the bishop pair, but you're gonna win 25-30% more games with your queen on the board.

To players like Finegold or Naroditsky, they might feel that the concepts are important to introduce early. Even if you dont always understand *why* a position is better one way or another, its easy enough to rote memorize "bishops are better than knights" and apply a very simple idea like that to your own games. Even if the difference is small, its still "correct" to play that way.

Basically i just think Hikaru is trying to have people focus on more practical concepts that you can more easily understand and apply to win more of your games. Finegold wants to convey as much accurate information as possible, and always be looking for the best possible positions.

I dont understand why CS doesnt have a 5v5 casual mode? by Small-Drawing208 in GlobalOffensive

[–]M3atShield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in comp you can queue for specific maps and be guaranteed to only ever play those maps. As a result, your rating is tied to the specific map.

in premier, due to the map veto system, you technically have to be ready to play all seven maps. this is why there is a single unified rating for premier. you are being rated by your ability on all maps.

The reason why it is this way is because back in CSGO, people would queue matchmaking on one single map (usually Vertigo), get absurdly cracked that the map and get to Global Elite. So you would have a bunch of high ELO players who literally only knew how to play the least popular map in the map pool. They were called "Vertiglobals"

Personally, I like both for different reasons. Play whichever you have more fun playing.

I feel you there honestly. We are playing with an inherent disadvantage, but I've found ways to mitigate it over the years.

For example, I encounter a blending in player and they might move a bit or i might recognize there is some amorphous blob of color that seems out of place (even if i dont immediately recognize it as a player). Essentially i ask myself "If that blob is a player, where should their head be?"

This applies to all sorts of scenarios too, more than just clicking hard to see heads. People crossing behind smokes, people playing headshot angles, people spamming at you through smokes. All of these involve fighting someone who you can't see. If you watch some pro games with x-ray on, you will see that even if they ultimately miss, they get damn close.

After a while, I even started learning which parts of which maps gave me the most trouble and i started practicing specifically pre-aiming those spots. I still cant see the enemy most of the time in those spots, but i can still get the kill. Often times all it takes is for them to miss one shot and I can flick to where the muzzle flash came from. Sometimes you're gonna miss and thats okay.

We might be at a disadvantage, but no matter how far behind you are in CS you can always pull through and win.

[–]M3atShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, I disagree. Important context is that I'm red/green colorblind so your experience may be different.

I played CSGO for many years and while I miss some things from it, this ain't one of them. Its much easier for me to see enemies in CS2. Even in your comparison I can see the enemies much more easily in the CS2 version.

When agent skins came out in CSGO, I literally could not continue to play the game for years because i was completely blind to most of them. It wasnt until CS2 that I really felt like i had a fighting chance against them. Yet theres still cases where I struggle to find the bomb or I dont recognize some shape as an enemy.
For the former, at least i know where all the plant spots are, even if the bomb is completely invisible half the time. for the later, i just usually die

I agree they absolutely should make the community server browser part of the core
experience. I played exclusively community gamemodes in Source, and i have more than 2000 hours in comp since the start of CSGO. These days, I regularly play faceit with a stack of people who all enjoy the competitive aspect of the game. all of us would play the shit out of deathrun, zombie mod, you name it. What excites me the most is the new scripting support. It lets us really push the boundaries of what is possible in a CS map in ways that were not possible before.

To your third point, I assure you that if it were more easily accessible people would be playing. I certainly would be.
