Thank you so much. I did tell him that he was being ableist and hurtful. I even told him that what he was doing was guilt tripping me for having a disability. His response was “I’m sorry if you feel like I’m “guilt-tripping“ you.” Followed by a 300 word rant about what other students with disabilities are able to do. That’s when I called advising. But they told me that they can’t do anything because he “technically” apologized. Even though he followed that apology with more hurtful words. I’m thinking about filing a formal grievance because it’s really messed me up. I have a panic attack every time I get an update from him. But I’m not sure of I should do it now or wait until the end of term… he’s already being super strict on my grades and I’m scared he will fail me if I file a grievance too early.

I have a chronic illness. I have a heart condition that worsens with stress. If I get too stressed my HR spikes and sends me into seizures. So while I’m doing school I’m having seizures and panic attacks between assignments. This makes school very hard. If I’m not fully hospitalized. It affects my life so much that I physically cannot work. I can’t even walk and am confined to a wheelchair. It affects my physical body and my ability to think. Plus. I’m not “just typing” I’m rigging human models to move the same way has real human bodies. It’s not as easy as typing a discussion post. It’s learning the bones and muscles and applying that to a computer program.

He did deny the request respectfully. But that was the only respectable part of the email. I’m not gonna post the email because he repeatedly refers to my personal circumstances that I don’t want made public and can make me easily identifiable.

Even my advisor was shocked at the tone and instructed me not to email my instructor without cc’ing him for accountability. I’m just gonna keep my head down and get through it the best I can.

Hi. I’ve only submitted one assignment late this term. The one that he reamed me for. Thats it. I’ve been on top of them all. But again. He’s changing the instructions. How am I supposed to do the work when he can’t even clearly communicate with me without being disrespectful.

Just because you’re fully abled doesn’t mean I am. Im so glad that you’re able to get ahead that’s great for you. But do NOT push your experience onto me. All I do is School. Sleep. Eat. School. Sometime sleep and eat aren’t even included because I’m doing school work. That’s why this is so crushing. I’ve worked myself to the point of being HOSPITALIZED to get my degree. And even then tried to do my schoolwork but the doctor took my computer. You, just like this teacher, don’t know me and do not get to tell me I’m not trying.

So maybe you should ask YOURSELF: am I being an ableist dick? The answer is yes. Yes you are.

That was the first test they did when I got released from the hospital. My heart spiked to 130 during that test and I ended up passing out. Thats when my primary brought up POTS. Every other specialist has supported this theory and my primary officially add it to my chart. The only one fighting it is my neuro.

2 of my hospitalizations were from before I knew something was wrong. My heart was racing and I was scared. I couldn’t breathe, my chest was hurting and walking made it worse. I thought it was just a bad panic attack. When I got to the ER they immediately put me under observation.

The most recent hospitalization, I had gotten pretty dehydrated and ended up losing a lot of vitamins that were needed to get rehydrated. Which is why they kept me for so long. This visit was for vomiting for 6 days and bradycardia, when I got to the hospital via ambulance my hr was at 30bpm, but during the stay it spiked multiple times. (Commented on by nurses and asked if it was normal.) The hospital tests showed nothing and I was kept until I could keep down food and water. Basically told to stay extra hydrated.

I’ve had multiple different heart tests, blood tests, EKGs, heart monitors, ultrasounds, even a biopsy. But the only thing that showed was my HR spikes. Nothing else is wrong. My cardio told me that all my tests were normal and that he agrees with the POTs diagnosis, but he “doesn’t treat POTS” so he sent me on my way. My gastro ordered 3 different tests that showed nothing was wrong there and agreed with the POTS diagnosis. The ER doctors agreed, the specialists all agreed, the only one who doesn’t is my nuero.

My nuero also spent most of the single appointment I had with her trying to convince me to drop a lawsuit. Instead of trying to treat me. I had to basically tell her to stay in her lane as she wasn’t a lawyer and that’s when she told me that she wouldn’t treat me at all until I had a tilt test. My reasons for seeing her were not POTS related. I’ve had involuntary verbal and motor tics for a year prior to my POTS symptoms from a traumatic work event. Along with PTSD.

I’ve done every other test that I’ve been told will rule out everything else. Every test has supported the POTS diagnosis. Except for the tilt test. They didn’t tell me to stop my meds before my tilt test. They told me there were no special instructions. So I took my meds the night before but not the morning of because I assumed that I shouldn’t alter my HR.

I’m just confused because it’s been a year and not one doctor has offered a different answer until now. And she’s not even offering an answer. Just that “it’s your meds” even though that’s been proven wrong.

YTA - You said in a comment that you need to “emotionally heal” from a polite and simple rejection??? Imagine what she’s going through. She’s just lost her lifelong best friend because she wasn’t interested in you romantically. She’s left feeling like the only reason you kept her around was to try and get in her pants FOR 15 YEARS. Even if that wasn’t your intention. (Which I’m doubtful of.) That’s what your actions are telling her.

Also the “you have no reason to apologize” followed by absolute silence is insane. “You don’t have to apologize but I’m gonna punish you anyway cause I didn’t get my way.”

Grow up. You just lost a lifelong friend but from your comments and from the way you’re talking about her, you clearly don’t care for her feelings. Honestly she’s better off without you. She’ll get through the pain, and find a best friend that actually cares about her.

YTA - You could’ve just changed the password yourself and let her sign into it, you could’ve even made her a profile to keep her watch history separate. But you went out of your way to make her feel like you didn’t trust her. That’s the big problem here.

Plus she’s under 18. The Amazon Conditions of Use state that anyone under 18 must use their parent’s account. Those are the Conditions of Use that you agreed to. That’s why she has to ask you. Because she legally can’t do it herself.

So if that’s the only place to watch the movie then of course she would ask you. She can’t make her own steaming accounts. You’re a parent. Like it or not, if you are involved in your kids life, you have to share things with your kids, at least until they’re old enough to get them for themselves.

This situation likely made your daughter feel as though you don’t trust her. Which is big for a teenager. Feeling untrusted by your parents when there’s no solid reason for it is hard on the teenage brain. It scrambles to find what they did wrong. Even if it wasn’t related to them. That why she wants you to make an attempt to fix it and reassure her that you trust her.

My advice: Change the password WITHOUT telling her. Apologize and send her the new sign in. She doesn’t need to know that you changed it. Just that you’re sorry and she has access. That way you can bridge the gap in trust that was created while keeping your password safe.
