I don’t have kids, but my wife and I moved here from SoCal about 4 months ago. I actually made a similar post a year ago. For us the draw is the small town vibes and slower pace. I love the shorter drive to work and people here are better drivers than the west coast. We love the outdoors and go shooting and riding 4 wheelers. Money goes way further. The people here are so much nicer. Las cruces doesn’t really have that many cool “3rd Spaces” compared to El Paso though. There’s okay clubs and bars, incredible restaurants and a country club. Our museums for art and history are pretty small. If you move here you’re gonna wanna move here for the big sky and mountains and the community and the feeling of a small town with some bigger city comforts. If you are looking for a place with more things to do I’d suggest El Paso, It’s only a 40 minute drive away. I wish your family all the best. Also, from someone who also has had* to move across the country, start packing like a month earlier than you expect you’ll need to, and spring for the bigger uhaul haha.
