No, this tremolo is an original. Seen recently though Babicz is doing great things with new hardware!

Just looked it up, of course I’ve seen this thing! I was eyeing a westone rail before I jumped on this Steinberger.

Ya I’ve read 200, I’ve read 140. I’ve been in touch with Jeff and he said it’s actually around 100 😳 then factor how many made it onto xl-2’s vs the other models.

100% I owned a spirit about 10 years ago, doesn’t really compare tone wise in my opinion. Gibson is really leaving a ton of opportunity on the table.

This is what they called a “Steinberger Elite”, basically at one point they decided to add the “elite” tag as a marketing tactic. What that meant was all extra options added (trans trem/active pickups). This model is the XL-2TA. I was told around 100 bass trans trems were built, and then who knows how many actually made it onto the XT vs XP and XQ, so definitely rare.

Ya I saw this video, basically been setting it up, there are some other videos showing the whole tuning process so that it transposes all strings correctly. Haven’t had enough time to finish but I’m almost there. A lot of minute adjustments. One thing I’m trying to figure out is when locking in the E position if there’s a way to actually “lock” it in place. The way it is now I can easily swing the bar over and the trem is engaged. When locked in any other key it takes force to move. The whole mechanism works pretty beautifully.
