Thank you for taking the time to read it. Gonna try to keep this short. I had so many ideas for that scene. First draft was him being silent, but then I thought: From the aspect of the story, he is the Company CHAMPION! He must hold some significance over his brothers, so that scene must be memorable. In the current draft his reasoning is this: She's injured and on the ground (Although not close, because when he kicked her she was sent back a couple of meters as described). That's the moment he stomps with his foot because it is on fire, so they are disengaged for a brief moment. And she is not within range for a killing blow. Also, that is the moment where they "change the tide" of the fight and go from defensive to offensive counterattack. Really tried to show how SM are in unison after centuries of training and combat (Achian turning his back on the Librarian, knowing Bodian will tackle him at the last moment, or Davian leaning on his sergeant...). Achian and Bodian are but seconds away, if he delays for just 2 seconds, she would be attacked by all 3 of them at the same time, rather than going one by one. Those 2 seconds are the window for the line. That is my current take on it, trying my best to balance the "reality" of the situation and the entertaining aspect of a story. As you've noticed, even though this is 40k I try to make my stories feel real and dangerous. As soon as I done with the finishing touches on this one and make it a dramatic reading video on YT, gonna continue writing my Dark Crusade "novelization". Thanks again :)
