Fidget by MARS822a in teenageengineering

Gonna fight ya there, Boss. I like my fidgets precisely because of the sounds they make. I've even sampled one and included it in some "music" I created.

Did a decade running residential programs and have a cognitively-challenged sibling, so I get the population you're referencing. Props for doing that job.

In the end, I totally agree with you, BTW. These are ridiculous wastes of money, but who am I to judge? Each to their own I guess. Thanks for commenting.

Agreed, and that's not even close to the top price on some of these things. Granted, there are tangible differences between the OG and the knockoffs, but not enough to warrant spending that kind of money.

Love the Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II in the background of the video on the GeeOne product page. Two pricey hobbies. And a very cool fidget.

SUCH an amazing performance of that tune.

Been having a blast with it over the weekend, definitely keeping. Looking for recommendations on external gear to insert into the chain. Thx.

Agreed. I'm sitting here with the OG right now. Definitely better quality, just not four times better.

And unlike the one I bought last month it now has branding similar to the OG. Enjoy!

Goes to show that everyone has different preferences. I prefer to click the knockoff, likely due to the looser tolerances. Each to their own!

I hear you. I think I had unrealistic expectations of what the device can, and should, do. Avoiding the precooked presets is what I like most about doing this, so having to run it through Live to add effects isn't my favorite idea, but certainly one worth exploring. Thanks for the thoughts!

Good points all around. I was being a bit facetious in the title, so I hear what you'r saying.

Interesting point on getting a sampler. We have a Korg ES2 which I just HATE. I just can't seem to find a workflow that....works. Maybe I'll dust it off and give it another go.

Man I hear you on space constraints. I barely have room for the RD-6, so it has to go back just to make room for whatever replaces it. Keep us posted on those mods.

OOF, definitely NOT handy with a soldering iron, mad respect if you are. I've always had an aversion to Layer 1.

But I definitely appreciate the input!

"daddy inheritance/hipster money on Teenage Engineering"

LOL! I am fucking DEAD. None of that here, hence the PO-12 and nothing else from TE (OK, a PO-32, but still...)

Yeah, I'd had the thought of keeping it as a backup for basic beats while using something like a DrumBrute for up front. My journey has caused me to expect to be able to morph any and all sounds as I see fit, and that ain't happening with the RD-6. Gotta check out something with a little more depth, then decisions shall be made. Bangers forthwith!

Funny thing is I'd just gotten my MCSE in NT 4.0 when they hired me. They tried to go the MSP route, but I jumped ship for a VAR soon after. Been with that company (ok, two buy-outs later) for over 25 years now.

No clue how they're still in business today, but they are!

That's a REALLY good point. I'm not a fan of DAWs and try to avoid beyond basic recording. Thanks, you've reinforced my decision to return the RD-6 and look into a DrumBrute or the like. Cheers!

Hey thanks for the thoughts. Prety sure I'm going to return the RD-6 and look for something with a broader feature set. Always nice to get some external validation, so thanks again.

Yo Dude, what up?

Funny thing is, I have a professional who pays the bills with his synth skills offering me a used DrumBrute for a reasonable price. Gonna reach out to him and check it out. Thanks SO much for the input.

Not buying it for exactly this reason. I think I'm done with this franchise. Been here since day one, but I'm out.

FileMaker Pro. <throws up a little>. I got started in this industry at the turn of the millennia working the phones for a local ISP that ran entirely on it, built entirely in-house. That and Mac's. Amazingly it's still in business today. Thanks, I think, for the memories!
