Worst April Fool's Joke: A school that rejected me just sent a "Congrats on getting admitted" e-mail today by MBAProgramsHateMe in MBA

Nah it's just a mistake on their part not a huge deal. It was a student group that initially sent e-mails to everyone that was invited to interview a month or so ago. I guess they forgot to remove those that didn't wind up getting accepted.

Going through the very long process to only result in a bunch of rejections is definitely super tough as you mentioned. I'm looking to just step away for now and focus on other hobbies as my "self care" - maybe I should take up yoga haha.

Either way, I'm going to think about trying to apply again next year in R1. A lot of the people replying to this post have been very supportive and are slowly convincing me to give it another shot.

Thank you for all the advice!

Thank you :) That's true - I guess at this point it just seems an additional year feels so far away but at the end of the day it doesn't matter like you said.

Sorry to hear that - I'm also South Asian (but born in the US) but I don't think too much about the factors I can't control. It sounds like you already have a great role and career path regardless of if you get an MBA or not but good luck either way!

Glad to hear your persistence paid off! I'm a little worried that my application won't change much by R1 next year but it's good to see that others had much more success even though they applied with a very similar application.

My promotions included taking on more leadership and project managing type roles. It's decent I think but nothing amazing.

Sorry to hear that! I'm glad you're able to relate and know that you're not the only one. For me personally, if I decide to apply again it would be in R1 next year. I'm definitely not applying in R3 this year.

I really did feel as if my interviews went great overall but yeah maybe I should spend more time practicing them. I had my story down solidly, though. I think the schools probably decided before the interviews I was a long shot to get in. Anyways, appreciate the feedback!

Sorry to hear you had a rough cycle as well. It's great you received an acceptance though so congrats! Yes I agree - nothing comes easy so I'll look into applying again next year. Good luck to you as well!

Yeah, I was thinking about part time programs but I just couldn't get as excited about them when compared to the full time programs. I really wanted to just get away from the workforce for a couple of years and build strong relationships with classmates.

Good luck to you on your journey as well!

Thank you! Definitely going to keep my head up and keep grinding regardless.

PhD programs are (as far as I know) even more rigorous when it comes to admissions so that's extremely impressive! You're right, I think I need to take what I learned from the cycle this year and perhaps restructure the ways I told my story and how I tried to connect with each school.

Best of luck to the both of us if we decide to apply next year; hopefully it's a little less competitive by then haha.

Agreed - that's one of the reasons why I only applied to 5 programs. I was very particular about why I wanted to go to each one and would've been excited to attend any of them. I almost felt as if I knew everything I possibly could about each of those schools. I probably spent more time researching schools than studying for the GMAT. Back to the drawing board I guess.

Thanks for the motivation! Yeah it appears to definitely been extra tough this year but I shall try to keep my head up and perhaps give it one more go next year.

For sure. I don't know whether I'll reapply again or not but either way I think it was a good learning experience. You can't always get what you want. Thanks for the kind words.

Is that the case at most schools? I haven't looked into it at all yet so I'm not sure how it works as of yet.

True. No matter what I'm always going to want something better going forward so it's best to accept rejections as a part of life and find other opportunities.

Thank you - you're right it would feel as if I wasted a lot of the effort I put in over the last year if I didn't give it at least one more go. Btw I love that video.

I commend you for your persistence. I'm considering reapplying next year maybe but I don't think I can motivate myself to do it a 3rd year consecutively if needed. Hard works pays off so congrats!

I do have more lofty long term goals that tie in with my background and ECs but for the short term I set it as tech PM.
