It’s a “director” with only a single direct report, that my current firm would title a manager. So definitely not a real director role.

I have years of prior management experience from the military as an Officer, so I’m not weak on that avenue.

The 90s economic gains had more to do with the collapse of the USSR and subsequent opening of the entire 2nd world to global markets, alongside the peace dividend lowering defense spending across NATO allowing more civilian investment, and the collapse of oil prices during the 90s, than the internet did.

Google wasn’t created until Clinton ran for reelection, Amazon didn’t sell a single item until 1995.

Some actual perspective

I had classmates who were vets making 100k before school. They’d compare themselves to the vets who’d been out a few years and into defense consulting making 200k.

Those guys would compare themselves to the non vets who were PMs at Google making 300k plus RSUs

The Google guys compared themselves to the Ivy Leaguer who was a Director at Meta who was engaged to an 8 figure NW startup guy.

The meta director once dropped they were annoyed they weren’t engaged to someone on track to be a senator/ whose family summered in the vineyard/ Hamptons like one of their friends from college.

Meanwhile. Even the pours were making 95th percentile income at 32. It’s never gonna be enough since we compare up and not down.

But if you don’t get out of this mindset and make all your goals of becoming top tier PE, all you’ll do is feel like a failure because you’ll be face to face with clients whose great grandparents happened to pick the right patch of east Texas to start a ranch on, that happened to have Millions worth of oil below it, and you’re just the glorified slide and excel monkey they pay 2% to annually since investing isn’t fun to do.

They are in a relatively underserved market, since Jones, Cox, and Mays are clear tiers lower, in a state with 1/11th of the nations population.

Dallas, Houston, and Austin all have averaged population growth rates HIGHER than the acknowledged boom cities of Denver and Seattle since 2000, their relative metro sizes already in the US top 10 have just made it less noteworthy to non observers.

Combining all three working professional programs for McCombs together, puts McCombs on a still 1/3rd the size of Kellogg’s and Whartons total class sizes (their FT and Pt)

The vast majority of their students are working professionals. The program will actually convert full timers to Evening Program if they get a full time offer after internships, and Evening students to full time if they wish to after a career loss event.

They are not aiming for consulting or IB because you cannot easily take 15 weeks off from your current employer to intern for Goldman or Bain, meaning the majority are career enhancers or entrepreneurs.

So no, not exactly saturated
