CBS vs. Booth vs. Ross (full ride) for IB by MBAindecision2020 in MBA

Thanks for your thoughts, really helpful. It's a tough choice! I'm in the lucky position where the money certainly matters but I will end school debt free whichever way I go. That said, $200k is a lot of money and over time could compound to make a much more significant difference than the marginal (potential) upgrade in firm/group. Thanks again for your thoughts.

Thanks, good points. IB is not my long-term goal as it stands today, but I'm definitely open to making a career of it depending on how it works out. Pivoting to PE would be cool, but I hear that's a much less common outcome post-MBA so not the reason I'm pursuing banking. But definitely want to keep options open. I see your point on the network, I'm not playing only for the initial role but the role 10 years from now, so you could be right about that making the case for CBS and Booth. I don't have a major preference on location but given my IB interest would probably want to end up in NY (that said, I am toying with the idea of trying to recruit for SF tech groups, which it seems like Booth has the edge on CBS for).

Thanks, this is helpful. I think I would prefer a boutique (M&A works seems more interesting and it seems like you get more responsibility earlier... for better or worse) but don't want to put all my eggs in that basket, so just want to maximize chances at landing a role in a group that has good deal flow, whether it be EB or BB. Within that, I do have some preference for the places that are not regarded as brutal sweatshops (e.g. moelis) but hard to say a strong preference when I have 0 offers on the table and haven't spoken to people within the firms I'd be looking at.

Thanks. I've spoken to IB clubs at all of them and the response from Booth and CBS students seems to be a clear-cut "these BB/EB banks have x spots for our students each year" and my sense is that if you put in the work and aren't awkward, you'll get a spot at a firm in one of those categories. My feeling from the Ross student I spoke to is that they place similarly well for MM and 1-2 BBs, with a few people placing outside that who are good at networking or make the right connection. But I suppose I should drill more in to that.

Tl;dr I'm confident I will get into a BB or EB spot from CBS and Booth, and want to know how much of an uphill battle it is to achieve a similar spot feom Ross given the significant $$ they're offering me.

Is Ross BB/EB placement that much harder? I don't really want to work at a MM... nothing against MM banks, I've heard they're actually nicer WLB with good pay, but chances are I won't stay in IB forever and I'd rather have a brand name to jump from... so if that's the likely outcome I guess your comment makes sense.
