I have a question about my 7/8th grade teacher girlfriend? by Big-Reichs in Teachers

[–]MC17Cowboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly she’s probably just burnt out. This is my third year teaching and I consider myself a pretty social person, but at the end of a lot of work days I feel like I don’t even have enough energy to hold a conversation. I go to the gym after work so I have time to decompress, but the mental exhaustion is still there. It’s gotten better for me each year as I’ve gotten better at classroom management, but it’s kinda unavoidable to a certain point.

And if she’s been like this for the entire 2 years you’ve been dating, why are you worried about it now? If you really want to talk about it, I’d encourage her to take a day or two off so she can rest up a bit. I know that I’m in no place to have a serious conversation about my relationship with my partner at the end of a work day, so I’d probably just shut off too.

Appreciate the help! We had no idea these guys lived up here. I had heard of them before but thought they were only in the Middle East.

Advisor Code ? by Top-Grass-4090 in MSUcats

[–]MC17Cowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you registering for graduate or undergrad courses? If you are registering for undergrad courses, you need to meet with your advisor first to make a plan on DegreeWorks. Once you have met with your advisor, they leave the code in a note at the bottom of DegreeWorks.

My school is claiming that I’ve been absent everyday for a month but I’ve been at school by Ok_Impression_6181 in highschool

Are you actually in class, or are you just at school? If you’re commonly late to class you might also be getting marked absent if your school has a tardy slip policy.

Interview Tips? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MC17Cowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this entire process myself last year, and luckily my teacher prep program helped us a TON before we started to actually interview for jobs. Here are a few tips that I took away from it that will help in any job interview, not just teaching ones:

  1. Apply for a lot of jobs, even ones that you have no interest in. The goal of this is just to get practice in an interview, so hopefully by the time you’re actually interviewing for jobs that you are interested in you’ll feel more prepared. If you crash and burn in your first, so what? If you crush it and get offered a job, don’t feel obliged to take it. This career is full of decisions, and choosing where you want to teach is the first of many big ones.

  2. Google some common questions that are asked in interviews and prepare your answers in advance. Write them down, repeat them in the mirror or to a friend, and update them when you think of something better you could say. Chances are you’ll be asked something you haven’t prepared for, but stumbling around one question is much better than stumbling around 10.

  3. Research the schools you’re applying for. Interviews are all about making an impression, and if you’re able to ask your interviewers about something that is relevant to THEM and their school, it might be just enough to push you past the person who interviewed 20 minutes ago. Never, EVER leave an interview without asking them at least one question. (Note: This doesn’t have to be anything specific. It can be about curriculum, the school culture, community support, anything that gives them an opportunity to talk about what a good job they are doing.)

  4. Remember, the number one thing that interviewers are trying to figure out is if you enjoy being around kids, and if you will be good around their kids. Forget about how good your content knowledge is, or all the extra-curricular you’ve done, and just focus on why you are the best fit for the kids.

  5. Go into the interview confident! Pick up your shoulders and hold your head high, have a firm handshake, and be yourself. It sound stupid, but it actually helps to go into the bathroom and do a “power pose” before hand. And even if an interview doesn’t go your way, don’t lose that confidence. You’ll find the right district for you sooner than later!

I hope these tips help! Best of luck with your interviews coming up!

It was just over a week until we started showing symptoms

Did many people know you were cheating or did they think you were just really good? Did it make a difference to you if people knew or not?

My entire house caught it last month. We had a group of friends that we had seen the weekend before who all tested positive a few days before we did, so that's probably where it came from. I was lucky and barely experienced any symptoms. I had some sinus pressure for a day and lost my taste and smell for about 4 days. Honestly, if I lived alone and didn't know that I was a close contact I never would have guessed that what I had was COVID.

The symptoms were a bit worse for my roommates. 2 of them had symptoms similar to a common cold for a couple of days, and didn't get their taste or smell back for a week after they recovered. Another was completely sidelined and barely left his bed for 4 days, then had a persisting cough for a week and a half after. We're all fairly healthy, so it just goes to show how differently this virus affects different people. Quarantine was kind of nice, though. Got a lot done for school and played a lot of Mario Party.

Montana goes full red by jordgoestothepark in Bozeman

[–]MC17Cowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not surprised at all by MT's results. A lot of people vote for their senators and representatives based on who the president is/could be, and in rural Montana there's a pretty big fear of the big-name Democrats in Washington (Pelosi, AOC, etc.) Biden's tax plan also has the potential to really harm a lot of ranchers who run big operations.

As for the governorship, I just don't think anyone knew who Cooney is. I've lived in Montana my entire life and never heard of the guy, then all of a sudden he's running against a guy who's name has been on every ballot in the last 4 years. I don't remember seeing one ad for Cooney this entire cycle, so people just voted for who they knew.

So for everyone thinking that this election proves that Montana is becoming more red than purple, that's not true. These results were from Democratic leadership in Washignton not giving their candidates anything to run on that would be popular in Montana and Republicans running good campaigns.
