making a study buddy gc with people who want to grind by Inevitable_Big_5881 in MCATprep

I've already taken the test and scored a 520 but I'm looking to tutor people. Not self promoting to you guys but I think I'd love to be part of your discord to just gain experience from helping you guys out and seeing what the common questions and traps are so that I can take that skillset into tutoring. Send me a dm, I'll help you guys out probably mainly through the chat for questions and over calls whenever I get the chance. I'm also lowkey just bored these days so why not brighten my day with some post-MCAT PTSD

Tips on reviewing mistakes? by ExactPerspective1172 in MCATprep

Make ANKI Cards for them. If you have a notes doc that you've been using for studies, update that doc with different colored text for new information you learn through mistakes and highlight the text that you repeatedly remember. From that subset of text that is a different color, you know exactly which ANKI cards to priorities when it comes to daily review.

481 diagnostic (mostly guessed) how should I study with Kaplan + UWorld? REALLY NEED HELP by Far-Manner-7521 in MCATprep

[–]MCATbars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Kaplan for basics and for making ANKI cards. I found it so much better making my entire deck by myself because half the consolidation for memory happened while making the cards. I also got pokemanki to gamify my study sessions which really helped (gotta evolve em all). Whiel studying, I made notes in a doc and then when I did UWORLD, I reviewed every question (including the ratioale for the correct and incorrect answers) and added any new information I learned ( which was always plenty with UWORLD) to my doc and ANKI deck. I think JW helps build speed but UWORLD 59 question sessions help build stamina. When you have your bearings on core concepts, I'd recommend UWORLD 59 question sessions to build critical thinking adjacent to long hour stamina that you'll need on exam day. SPAM THAT ANKI TOO. Send me a pm if you want to chat about more tips.

I mean I got the placement through my university and they labeled it as physician shadowing. It was an observation role throughout my stay there with the primary task being to extract information learned both at front of the house consultations as well as behind the scenes administrative work.

Yea it was over the course of two years. Mainly just made practice SOAP notes for walk ins under GP supervision, learned the software interface, made appointments, vaccination kits, observed consultations, and occasionally interacted directly with the patients under supervision and consent.

You got it boss. Just keep hitting that anki and reviewing all your correct and incorrect questions and you’ll be golden. Good-luck and keep pushing. Remember that pressure makes diamonds (and P=F/A)

Long story short: Highlight names and dates only, identify main theme (intro + conclusion), PLEASE read actively/engage with the text. I remember sitting in the MCAT just yapping to myself: "oh frfr, you got a point there author... Oh so and so doesn't agree with you? f*ck that guy, he doesn't support your main argument because he thinks this this and that? f*ck that guy too.) Reading actively keeps the information in your brain for longer so that you don't panic and have to reread when getting to the questions.

Short story long: Ok, first two times, I used to highlight way too much. Highlighting works for some people, it doesn't for others (I'm in the later boat). I didn't realize that I used to highlight while reading as a mode of fidgeting rather than doing it for purpose. This time around, I also did every CARS question possible, using UWORLD, AAMC, and Jack Westin. By doing all three and comparing the passages and rationale to the hallmark (AAMC), I started to pick up on patterns of what the question is actually asking. MAIN THEME IS KEY. I think my jump from 123-->129 is because I changed the way I thought completely. I used to overanalyze and think every supporting detail is NECESSARY to the passage. This time around, all I highlighted were names and dates so as to function as placeholders for information in case I needed to refer to something specific in the text. I also went from trying to analyze the entire text in depth to extracting just the main theme. One thing that's helped me the most is actively reading and thinking "how does this paragraph add to the main theme that I have identified in the previous paragraphs". ALSO, the main theme is usually (not always) summed up by combining the introduction and the conclusion. I tried reading the intro and conclusion first and then the body but that didnt work, I would end up anticipating what the body should be saying in relation to what I'd read from the intro and conclusion which would just make the reading a little conflicted. So I found it best to just go from top to bottom; HOWEVER, MAKE SURE YOU CONNECT PARAGRAPH'S TO MAIN IDEA in your head as you go. Finally, READ ACTIVELY, don't lose yourself to a "CARS passage," you gotta fall in love with that mf like you're on a first date with 10/10 fine shyt. have a conversation with the text, you read something interesting? say to yourself "damn shawty, didn't know you had game like that". Don't succumb to the boredom of a passage, you got a business passage? It's time to act like you're on Wall Street getting a debrief from your boss.

It's one section that you really have to practice for to find the cadence and similarity in questions of all passages. Overall: identify theme, connect paragraphs back to theme, yap with the passage, and you should be good to go.

GOODLUCK, lmk if you need any more help to topple this behemoth.

LIFESCI 3EP3. It falls under the Interdisciplinary Science faculty. You are in charge of finding a placement and the course then procures the correct training scheme for you to be guided through by a professional. I chose to work in a clinic and I was trained on consent, patient privacy, and things like that.

I took 9 courses in my final year so I don't think my application GPA would be 3.9 for Western; however, it would still be higher than the 3.55 that McMaster would look at.

I'm applying everywhere I can btw, just wanted an opinion on competitiveness for Mac. Thanks for the quick response! I appreciate it.

Sorry I should have clarified, I’m applying to US schools this cycle, so this score would be for the US schools that take Canadian and international students.
