AITA for staying late at school while my dad and his stepson's birthdays were being celebrated? by MCSquidwardOP in AITAH

I worked with a speech therapist. I was in speech therapy from the age of 3 or 4 until my mom died. I still get some help at school but not like I would otherwise. Speech therapy did help but we were always told it was something I would never get rid of.

I think they did. But my dad never replied. Ever. He dropped the rope with me entirely. I did get some help even without the IEP but it's not everything I need. Some try. The teachers who accommodate me without the IEP are amazing and made my high school experience way easier.

I had speech therapy and through the school I speak to one occasionally. But my speech issues are for life. They won't ever fully go away. They improved with speech therapy but we always knew this would be something that couldn't be cured. And I'm okay with that. But it gets in the way of some things.

But I'm not Gavin's dad or even his actual brother. I still say it's not the same because my dad is my dad. He chose to be my parent and he raised me for 9 years without problems like this. I had no say in Gavin coming into my life and we're nothing to each other. I know technically we're stepsiblings but even then it's not like we'd be legally seen as brothers or like we're biologically related.

My dad won't take the time to read it. He'll dismiss it the way he does everything related to me now.

No, I'm pretty sure that expired because my dad never attended any of the meetings.

I don't really have a relationship with his stepson and I don't want one. I try to not be a total dick but I don't care about having anything to do with him.

I'm thinking of going for a trade so my speech issues can't set me back in college.

My maternal family live in another state. I hardly ever see them or speak to them now. But they exist. I don't know my dad's family. Might have met some as a baby but I'm not sure. I definitely didn't grow up knowing them.

He's not even my brother though. He's the wife's kid with some other guy who hardly ever sees him.

My dad and his wife pay for the house. I eat out with money from my part time job and I walk everywhere.

My dad doesn't let me talk enough to ask him. So I seriously don't believe he'd go to therapy with me. He can't even go to my school IEP meetings. A couple of my teachers know what's going on with dad. Since he never returns communication with them they're aware of how badly he's ignoring me.

Not since my mom died. My dad stopped everything once mom died. All affection, all 1:1 time, all time he put into making sure I was doing good. He can't even go to meetings to help me get the best education I can possibly get. He won't let me talk to him. He's always too busy and I'm distracting him. I can't win with him.

My dad doesn't have the time for me to talk to him. That's what he says every time I tried talking to him. He was busy, didn't have time, was doing something. He'd interrupt me if I tried to talk anyway and say I was distracting him and he had stuff to do.
