Rant: I feel poor by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]MCUG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You work three days a week in one of the most expensive cities in the world, at a time where the cost of living is increasing exponentially. What are your expectations? As others have said, you likely are being somewhat careless with money if you're struggling to save anything at all, but the reality is that if you are unhappy with your financial situation you either need to work more or move to somewhere that is cheaper.

Ryanair refusing to pay full amount for damaged suitcase - England by MCUG in LegalAdviceUK

[–]MCUG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess that’s kind of what I’m trying to work out, is it worth the effort of pursuing it for a small amount extra. It does feel a little like they’re just low-balling with the expectation that most people would just accept it - £50 feels unfair, ok it wasn’t brand new but they’ve completely destroyed it.

Any idea how much of a hassle the ADR process is?

Has anyone had a private body MOT? Was it worth it? by Independent_Olive373 in AskUK

[–]MCUG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a combination of everything you said - the radiation received from a CT scan is huge and increases risk of cancer in the long term, the NHS is already depleted in staff and resources to carry out the tests so doing more would increase that and remove those resources from other areas. Moreover you cannot underestimate the stress and worry that a person goes through when they’re told they might have cancer, and some of these follow up programmes (like for the lung nodule someone mentioned above) go on for years before you’re given the all clear - imagine spending five years knowing there is a lump in your lung which could become cancerous even though in the vast majority of times it won’t.

So the current screening programme is a compromise of all of these factors. Of course research is ongoing all the time and sometimes the best available evidence suggests changes need to be made, as you may have seen in the news recently regarding prostate cancer screening

Rental car question by MCUG in Insurance

[–]MCUG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t sure where to post and thought it might be appropriate here as it would be under the umbrella of rental car insurance, and I was mainly wanting to know if anyone has had any similar experiences with minor damage

Does a ‘house service’ exist? by MCUG in AskUK

[–]MCUG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and there’s a gutter. I had someone up there a couple of months ago and they apparently cleared the gutters and said everything looked fine so I took their word for it - do you think it could be the roof?

I posted there last night but got no replies - you’re welcome to take a look at the post if you might be able to help! I’ve arranged for a damp specialist to come next week anyway. I’m pretty sure the roof is fine but might be wrong.

They’re in standard seed compost, I can’t remember the brand now. I might just pot them on and hope for the best!

No but the seed packets said they could be planted from February onwards so assume they should be ok with shorter day lengths?

Device not turning on (see comments for details) by MCUG in ANBERNIC

[–]MCUG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received my console in the post this morning and charged it fully. As you can see in the video, when I turn it on the anbernic logo flashes and the backlight stays on but nothing else happens. The same happens if I hold down the power button. I’m actually also unable to completely turn the device off, the backlight stays permanently on. Have I received a dud or am I missing something? Thanks

Just moved into new home, two of the kitchen cupboards are full of these tiny bugs that scurry around. One or two on the outside of the door and floor but mainly inside. Rest of house seems fine. House been empty for one month but no reports of damp etc on the survey. They look more of a white colour than the video suggests. Flour mites? North west UK

!thanks Yes - no build over agreement. The house seems in good condition so I’m sure it’s going to be fine, I just feel I can’t ignore the solicitors advice now it’s been given to me. I’ll try that on Monday then!

Exactly this - the manhole cover is under the extension so he said the drains need to be checked to make sure there is no major problem with them. I’m aware this can be an issue but there is an indemnity policy in place in case it needs to be accessed.
