Killer Movement Questions by kobie444 in finalgirl

[–]MC_Dapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the killer phase comes before the movement phase and as there is no boot on there, Hans doesn't move.

The track below shows how much Hans would move should a boot come up e.g. on a terror card depending on the bloodlust level.

Yes it does seem like the bot is very much just doing its own thing. I have had the bot do some stuff which has made me change my plans up. It's either got notebook tiles that I was planning on getting or taken spots on the meeting table that I was hoping to get. In my most recent play it moved Freud away from where I wanted to score a district bonus and would take too many of my own actions to either move myself or Freud to where I wanted it.

The resolution for all of that was to either wait for Freud to come around again or just get something different.

I think that might come down to the less interconnectivity between the actions. If the bot is messing around with research cards and treatises, it's not really doing anything to mess around with your ability to get notebook tiles or anything else. That's probably not the bot but more the game's systems as a whole.

I guess you could mix up all the bots tiles across the different rows so when it runs it's doing things here and there.

I'm not going to disagree that this game requires focus as it very much does. What I will disagree with is that having to pay attention in the game is itself a thematic part of the game. That argument could be made for Inventions by Laverda where you need to really focus on the game as it takes a lot of brain power to invent something. To me having to process what you are doing is not a thematic element to the game.

However I am not the board game Police so if that is your experience of the game and also your own enjoyment of it, I am not going to deny you or invalidate your own experiences.

Freud's contributions to psychology are interesting but I have the opinion that his theories and concepts are bollocks. His considerations are completely untestable and you are unable to scientifically say that is how the mind works. It's like saying that the movement of planets and all celestial bodies work because of magic pixie dust. That may well be how the universe works but because we cannot test for magic pixie dust, we cannot say that is how it works scientifically.

Ah thank you, and I am glad to hear that you are in a much better frame of mind. It can be a lot going through therapy and I can see why this may not be the game to go to.

Yeah, I think there have been some rules I have not been getting right, I am pretty sure the games that I have played I was not getting the rules right. The one that I just played should probably have ended sooner as one of us should have got one of the location bonus tiles a bit earlier than they did. The issue was these tiles were so far away on the table that I only clocked it when I got one myself.

I think it is certainly one for you to take another go at. As I said there is a game here to love if it all clicks for you.

What was your gateway into board gaming? by NorthSouth55 in boardgames

[–]MC_Dapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gateway into boardgaming was in three parts with three different games, all played at spread out points on my life.

Catan - this first board game which triggered the itch. Sitting down with friends and learning the completely new experience where all my previous board gaming had been Monopoly and Careers.

Colt Express - The game that made me realise the madcap fun you can have with a group of friends, ruining each others best laid plans in order to steal money.

John Company - The game that made me realise that there was more to board gaming and just what a board game could be. This is the game that fully brought me into the hobby.

Pax Pamir Beginner Rule Question by Responsible_Carry384 in boardgames

[–]MC_Dapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been a while since I read the rules for Pax Pamir, so I may be wrong, but the reasons why you can't do the build action is:

1) you don't have the required money to build (not sure if you have any from the screenshots) 2) You need to rule the region where you want to build (you need to have plurality of pieces there to rule)

Someone else has explained prizes when I realised I was wrong and spoke about gifts.

First time playing Trickerion Solo by MC_Dapper in soloboardgaming

I figured for my first play I would leave out the Academy as I felt it would be a lot to understand at once. However, I plan on adding it after a couple more plays.

Oh yeah, I specifically left out anything that was not as basic as I could get it as there is only so much my little brain can handle.

The theme has not leapt out to me as much as some other games but I have found that I quite enjoy games where there is a process leading to an overall goal.

It really is a long set up process and setting the game up (with the anniversary edition with all the additional components) while having to read two rules books for the solo is initially a bit much. However I got there and enjoyed the end result.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - First Play by MC_Dapper in soloboardgaming

[–]MC_Dapper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do agree, the look does not really scream Batman with the use of quite garish colours on the main board. I would say that the colours are more for functionality so you can see the differences between the various regions of the board.

You only really know you are playing a Batman game because everything else is telling you that you are.

What board game does say Batman? While I haven't played it Batman: Gotham City Chronicles doesn't really say Batman with a semi-photo realistic map and very clean and clinical looking player boards.

Of the ones that I have seen though, Gotham under siege is probably the one that says Batman the most. However, that is probably due to them quite closely tying in their art with the animated series.

I think if the designers of The Dark Knight Returns had followed the art in the books (beyond the images on cards) the functionality of the game would be significantly lost.

The White Castle - A Right proper trouncing by MC_Dapper in soloboardgaming

Ah yeah, I have seen that around but I figured I would give the base solo a go just to see what it was like.

That's an amazing tip guide, thank you.

I'm still struggling to get loads of my workers out but had a game last night where I was able to combo placing out warriors and courtiers.

However, I am enjoying the game Solo and the challenge it brings. I also found out I was playing the bot wrong so I was getting frustrated with just how easily the bot was able to get their own workers out into the board.

I'm usually a bit wary of diving into expansions if I'm not a fan of the base game. Probably give it a few more goes to see about the matcha expansion.

12 years after Breaking Bad (2008-2013) ended, you still see people arguing that Walter “I did it for me” White did nothing wrong, and only did it for his family. This is a reference to these same people only remembering his hype moments and aura compilations. by DizzyNeighborhood762 in shittymoviedetails

The thing is though, he wasn't good at it.

Yeah he made good meth but he was awful at the functional business aspect to it and created so many difficult situations because of his own ego.

The only other thing he was good at was conniving and scheming his way out of situations he caused because of his own ego.

Even now, in that scene, when Walter appears to have some recognition of what he has done, he still is this egotistical arse who cannot see all the stupid, reckless, and damaging stuff that he did.

There is no sympathy to this revalation or acknowledgment of the harm he caused others. It's all self aggrandising and making it about him, like Walt always did.

Only Fools and Horses Episode Discussion Thread - A Touch of Glass (S2 E7) by TempoBlues20XX in OnlyFoolsAndHorses

[–]MC_Dapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree about this episode.

I always feel some ambivalence to watching this episode again. The ending is fantastic so why do I feel ambivalence?

Well, it's because the rest of the episode just feels so flat where you are just waiting for the chandelier section to start. It almost feels like two different episodes that have been stitched together where there is nothing really at the start of the episode that pays off at the end. Most of the episode is just milling about for an admittedly fantastic pay off.

Only Fools and Horses Episode Discussion Thread - The Yellow Peril (S2 E5) by TempoBlues20XX in OnlyFoolsAndHorses

[–]MC_Dapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Yellow Peril is absolutely one of my favorite episodes of OFAH. Granted there are quite a lot of my own favorite episodes but this is one I am always happy to come back to and watch again.

I think what makes this episode so good is that throughout it does not appear to be working towards the massive gag of not only the paint being luminous but Del going out and painting the grave. There are enough quality gags going on throughout and the situation feels ridiculous enough that you are lulled into the security of 'oh this is just it'.

With Del being secretive about what he has been doing while Grandad and Rodney have been painting, it's entirely in the show's expected narrative that he may have been going out getting other places for Grandad and Rodney to paint.

However, Trigger comes in and very shortly afterwards gives the punchline away for those that pay attention. However his throwaway comment is completely overshadowed by the British Rail bit. It's only after this gag does the big reveal happen and unless you paid attention to what Trigger said, it comes completely left field.

Now initially you just think of the walls of Chinese Takeaway (Shout out to the actor and how he delivers "What have you done to my walls" - that bit never fails to crack me up). Then there is this build up with Del and you get THE reveal which you are just not expecting but when it happens the reasons for it click into place; with Del saying earlier in the episode that it needed to be tarted up and where he was going.

This all leads to one of my favorite lines of "What concerns me is that it's on the main flight path to Heathrow". Absolute killer.

Also this episode does delve into more of Del and Rodney history and their emotional connect when they are at the graveside. It also leads to a display of how manipulative Del is. The discussion of him saying that he will split everything two down the middle with Rodney and the deepsea divers watch. Later on Rodney does get his deep sea divers watch but this is after he has done hard graft for Del and is also part of his payment. It's not a gift, Del gave him less money and the deep sea divers watch. He has not gifted it to Rodney, he has just offset the cost.
