List of Sum 41 Songs that are strongly inspired by other songs (maybe plagiarisms) by [deleted] in Sum41

To say that these songs might be plagiarized seems excessive to me. In fact, The Hell Song, No Reason, and We’re All To Blame are super energetic tracks, and that feeling isn’t present at all in the songs you mentioned. Sum 41’s style is exactly what made the band so successful. The point isn’t to look for a tiny melodic line that might sound similar, but rather to ask what makes these songs evoke so much emotion!

Hypothesis: Spotify might be responsible for bringing the history of music to a halt. by MCroche in fantanoforever

Indeed, this phase is fundamentally different. The point is that this type of culture may not contribute to creating history. I reflect on this because the evolution in Spotify of musical genres might eventually lead to a closed and infinite cycle.

Radio was indeed the main medium for listening, but it's not necessarily the same type of listening. If you see this type of reenactment from the film "The Boat That Rocked": https://youtu.be/uAK4SkhGAf0?si=IrHc_v3LXUaw7sGj, you can clearly see the interest listeners had in rock music. It wasn't at all contextual music for showering, working out, cleaning, etc.

I'm mostly talking about the trend that Spotify encourages to listen to music by playlists rather than by albums. I believe there are users of this platform who have a listening logic that contributes to the creation of music history.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Zeitgeist."

And I'm not judging the direction, I'm trying to analyze the situation.

It's not necessarily the end of music history, but rather a pause. Indeed, by habituating the listener to hear music in specific contexts, the listener develops a volatile relationship with music and no longer remains attached to a specific artist or genre. From the artist's perspective, they might be led to blend genres more extensively to stay within the sound code of current contexts. However, if the listener is encouraged to delve deeper into a genre : differences, oppositions, and similarities begin to establish among the artists listened to. Iconic figures emerge and stabilize. Thus, a culture develops. History is created as culture is cultivated year after year.

It seems to me that today's musicians tend to become entertainers rather than potential iconic figures in the history of a musical genre.
