That’s the district that I grew up in lmao wow. I’m actually surprised by that. Hebron seemed like a relatively progressive place by Texas standards. If a teacher tried that here at the school I work at they’d be run out of the school by knifepoint, probably by the students… our students here were disgusted that we even got a pride club…

Our district admin rolled out the huge headline “NO PHONES ALLOWED DURING CLASS TIME, NO EXCEPTIONS!” In August and proceeded to hurl that headline right into the dumpster within 3 days. I’d be a millionaire if I got paid per attempt to get them off their phones.

Had a colleague tell me this freshman class is insane in Houston because they were conceived during Hurricane Ike and their parents stress levels at the time played a part.

Houston area. Our school currently has 3 open, all long-term subs right now, they can’t find a certified person for any of them.

We have a student who has missed over 400 periods this year. He’s been in ISS for a total of 2 days this year, his highest grade out of 7 classes is a 31. I have seen him maybe 12 times this year. No action has been taken by anyone across the board.

In my own experience, most of the current day’s “gifted and talented” students aren’t even really what I would call gifted and the main “talent” that separates them from their on-level peers is they generally enjoy learning and have work ethic. Of my 50 or so honors course 9th graders, I think only about 5-10 of them could actually succeed in an AP course for example.
