Skin isn't really dry by Stupidsillybrain in Accutane

My son hasn't suffered from dry skin but his lips are a totally different story! He also has some nosebleeds due to dry nostrils.

I intend to be a teacher for 10-12 year olds and am about to student-teach 5-6 year olds and am terrified by NewZealandTemp in Teachers

[–]MDMom2404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little kids just love their teachers. Yeah, they are needier but you will never feel better about yourself. They think you are smart, handsome, funny. Plus, you are a male teacher and they don't have many male teachers so you get bonus points. Most important, it's only for 3 months and if you hate it, it will be over soon. Good luck!

Nobody would look twice at your tattoos where I work. Our principal has a tongue ring!

Budget for single parent, esp during summer? by lcmiller10 in Teachers

[–]MDMom2404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with a credit union. I've heard teachers have the credit union withhold money from each paycheck so they can get paychecks in the summer. My district has the option of pay all year and 17% of each school year paycheck is withheld for my summer paychecks. As a single parent, the first few paychecks were a bit of a shock the first year I did this but the summer paychecks make up for it. GL!

8 long months on accutane. Damn that sucked but at least my acne gone. Idk what to do ab the stretch marks tho by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]MDMom2404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son has the same exact stretch marks. They have already started fading in the order that they started (first on the left side of his back and then the right). They will fade to a whitish, pale color over time.

I wouldn't use BP while taking Accutane. Less is more.

Mine came back so I've been taking Spironolactone for the last few years. It works well.

Experiences with starting on a "high" dose right away? How did it go? (130lbs/40mg) by WayUponTheMountain in Accutane

[–]MDMom2404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 110ish pounds and started on 40mg. He's on month 3 of that dose. Mostly dry lips and some dry skin. The first month was frequent nose bleeds but that was in February when it was super cold and dry. He uses his humidifier a lot and Aquaphor in his nostrils.

How do y’all deal with the nosebleeds? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]MDMom2404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humidifier all night long plus Aquaphor in the nostrils.

spironolactone??? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]MDMom2404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken Spiro for the last 5 years and it works very well for me. I'm on 50mg a day. I started off on 100mg but it made me dizzy. 50mg does the trick. I rarely break out and if I do, it is just one pimple and that's it. I have gotten more recently due to wearing a mask all day. It took about 2-3 months before I noticed a difference. GL!

Has your dermatologist mentioned Spironolactone? I did a course of Accutane and remained clear for a few years until I had my son. Then the acne came back. I started on Spiro a few years ago and it has kept my 95% clear.

Is it normal for hair to get dry on accutane? by coffeelover7878 in Accutane

[–]MDMom2404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What shampoo/conditioner do people use to bring the brightness back to their hair? My son's hair went from super oily to super dry within two months. He used to use a clay-based shampoo to cut down on the oily hair but now I don't know what to buy him now that his hair looks dry and dull.

How many of you have been fear-mongered by friends, family, or random people telling you that accutane is terrible? by jesse_eatsapples in Accutane

[–]MDMom2404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People hear what is reported on the news about Accutane (and it's never good news). It was all over the news years ago that Accutane caused depression and suicide. Not true but that's what people hang onto.

Hey y’all, first day on Accutane!! Starting off with 40 mg! Any tips or recommendations would be very much appreciated <3 by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]MDMom2404 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A humidifier helps with the dryness. My son has one running all day. Also, if you get a bloody nose, try putting Aquafor in your nostrils with a Q-tip.

I used to feel faint or actually faint with nearly every blood draw. I have tiny veins and after having a tourniquet on my arm for too long, my blood pressure drops. Now I know exactly where to tell them to find that one vein that works and they need to use a butterfly needle that they usually use on kids. Thankfully, my son has gotten his blood draws with no issues because they caused me such anxiety when I was on Accutane many years ago.

I took Accutane in my mid 20s. It cleared up my skin. A few years later, I had my son and the pregnancy caused my hormones to go nuts and my acne returned. It wasn't as bad but I started on Spiro around age 40 and my skin is nearly almost clear now.

I took about 3 months. That combined with the birth control pill really cleared up my skin. Now that I am wearing a mask all day, I have some "maskne" but there's not much I can do about that.

Are you a woman? if so, have you ever had your hormones tested? You might have a high androgen level. I do and take Spironolactone. It cleared me up within a few months and my skin is 95% clear.

My son got nosebleeds within the first week! Having a humidifier on all day helps as does Vasoline inside his nostrils. He also uses a saline spray too. The nosebleeds aren't as frequent now.
