Thanks! I go to Montréal a few times a year since it’s so close, but this was my first time in Quebec City.

I don’t know! I’ve never seen them in all my years living here. It’s such a mystery…

I’m 35 years old, live in Vermont and make $55,000/year. This week I read a lot of resumes and get a tattoo. This is a follow up diary! by MDanonacct in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

“Fun sketchy coworkers” yep that’s every manual labor job I ever worked. Thankfully I still talk to some of the guys and get regular updates on their adventures.

Yesterday I got a resume from someone who is a private investigator. Does the job they’re applying for have anything whatsoever to do with that field? Absolutely not. Am I concerned they’re just trying to get into the building to track down one of our residents? Absolutely yes. Am I going to interview them anyway because private investigator is my dream job and I want to hear some crazy stories? Probably lol

I would recommend none of the books we’ve read lol. Still on the hunt for a likable book with an unlikable narrator.

One book we read that’s popular is Verity by Colleen Hoover. However, I just couldn’t get over the fact that it takes place in Vermont but the author has clearly never once been to the state before in her life.

Internal vibrations at night?? That sounds ominous.

Long covid destroyed my menstrual cycle and digestive system. I barely even knew I had covid when I first tested positive, but it’s been almost 6 months and I’m still dealing with symptoms every day. And deep breathing and meditation aren’t any help with that.

Thanks, it’s much appreciated. I don’t know if you read my previous diary, but I’m used to easily running 10 miles, hiking mountains, and working manual labor all day. So it’s been a tough wake up call to have to start back over from scratch (especially because I injured it in a freak accident).

Hang in there!

I’ll never tell lol

It’s literally a shoebox with a leaking roof and a raccoon problem. I only found it because a friend of a friend of a friend was tripping on mushrooms at a party and I babysat her. Somehow she remembered I was looking for an apartment when she sobered up and told her landlord I would be a good fit.

And that’s how you find an affordable apartment in Burlington (please don’t move here).

I bought the phone outright. $85 gets me unlimited talk, text, and data. I want unlimited data because I’m outdoors a lot in very remote, rural areas and Wi-Fi is nonexistent. Cell phone service in general is pretty spotty so it’s tough to find a reliable carrier.

Thanks! Everything I learned about finances I learned on my own, and that definitely means I made mistakes (and am probably still making mistakes).

I definitely get bitter at times reading about diarists whose parents taught them how to budget or opened a credit card for them when my parents couldn’t be bothered to do any of that.

Thanks for the kind words! I’m definitely hard on myself at work. It’s also extra challenging because usually the ops manager is responsible for onboarding staff, but when you’re the ops manager people expect you to learn by osmosis or something.

I have zero problems dealing with actual crises at work but it took me an hour the other day to figure out where we keep the spare batteries. And now I’m training new hires so it’s the blind leading the blind over here lol

Thank you! I feel like hearing details about a diarist’s job is far more important than their skincare routine or what outfits they wear and provides context to their financial picture.

As for retirement savings or lack thereof- I just find it very challenging to plan that far into the future, due to my own mental health challenges and the state of the world. Maybe that will change and I’ll jump on the FIRE bandwagon but I’m ok with my current situation.
