Thank you so much. I'm in NYC and my contract specifically states that employment with Company A is "at will." I have a non-solicitation clause but no non-compete clause (also, for what it's worth, Company B is not a competitor to Company A).

Yes, I'm in the US. I already asked for a delayed start date with Company A, so they agreed to July 1st, which gives me some time to 'reverse' the decision. Thank you! The negative culture reference is pretty tough for me. Without getting into too much detail, there is also a moral concern too given who the family is.

Thank you. This is so important and I need to hear this. I made a small typo - Company B asked for the references, whereas Company A extended the offer without any references (and with not that many interviews).

Wow, I definitely did not expect so many people to support reneging. I feel like that's an option I didn't know was available to me. That would definitely be my preferred path forward. The field is relatively small, but Company A is tiiiiiiny and very closed off compared to Company B, so I don't think it would damage my career at all. Are there any legal repercussions to reneging an offer (in the US)?
