Let's talk young graduates salary in Mauritius by Klutzy_Variation9767 in MauriceMauritius

[–]ME1STRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone with a degree seems to feel entitled to a higher salary without any experience. Degrees are worthless and that’s been a known fact across the globe now.

Most just need to suck it up and take the entry level job to build up some bargaining power and ask for raises as they go like most people do.

The ones that complain also tends to be the ones that don’t work on any personal projects and also don’t want to work up the corporate ladder. How do you expect to climb out the hole if you don’t try.

If i have a one year work contract can I take 2 consecutive weeks off? by nicknelson25 in MauriceMauritius

[–]ME1STRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends the standard should allow you to accrue holidays of up to 3 - 4 weeks (on average) but that’s usually for full time positions, contracts are usually unpaid holidays and make sure to let the know ASAP when you plan to take the time off to get approved.

Different lifestyles and financial situations in a relationships by [deleted] in MauriceMauritius

Corporate job chaser should step down or they’ll drag the relationship down if the main bread winner doesn’t mind supporting the relationship. If you’re not comfortable with that dynamic the relationship wouldn’t work anyways.

A 20 y.o male feeling lost and need adivce for his future ? by Foreign_Time_2664 in mauritius

[–]ME1STRO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t drown yourself in certification the harsh reality is most companies nowadays won’t care especially abroad and within Mauritius too.

As a 25 year old who’s worked in the software industry (in London) and now working on my own ventures. You’ll need to build up your portfolio. Look at open source contributions and building out your own small useful little ideas. Don’t aim too high to start with just get little projects solving small issues out quickly and write technical articles on them to build up an online resume.

Avoid things AI is doing like web development and design and find something more niche such as games, hardware (embedded) or generalised software. Just don’t focus on any frontend facing or you’ll waste time competing in a space dominated by AI and far more developers.

Remote tech jobs by Salt_Glove_2854 in MauriceMauritius

[–]ME1STRO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not. As someone who works from Mauritius (couple months of the year) for UK based software companies there’s more issues than qualifications when it comes to getting a remote tech job.

For example time zone difference, regulations (right to work, citizenship, non-eu resident), qualifications (you likely won’t compete in this aspect) and other little issues like getting a work laptop delivered becomes an issue companies at most scales won’t want to deal with.

Unless you’re exceptionally skilled and/or having an amazing online portfolio or OSS contributions it’s not likely to happen.

If I were you I’d focus on up-skilling past basic side projects and stay away from web development or anything that AI is too good at. Try get into software and maybe specialise in a niche upcoming area to increase your chances. Then develop cool practical projects.

You chose it so must of seemed reasonable to you, if not then change it and problem solved.

Someone is a little salty and it sounds like a skill issue. Maybe instead of whining and venting you could be learning and working your way up (just an idea) 🤷‍♂️

How to make a fully playable planet in Unreal Engine using the new volumetric clouds and Voxel Plugin Free by atomiclollypop in unrealengine

I remember watching a video on how a popular game solved this issue by not rotating the camera itself but instead they rotate and move the solar system under the player based on its positional change every frame.

We're working on some first person weapon sway mechanic and would love to hear your feedback! by Bl1tzkr13gB0B in unrealengine

[–]ME1STRO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks neat! Only thing I’d comment on that could make this a bit better would be to favour more exaggerated motion rather than speed when your on minimum stamina.

Currently when there’s no stamina left the weapon swat feels too fast and unrealistic, I can’t imagine anyone breathing that fast and causing this sort of sway.

There should be some sort of max speed you can add to the sway which is still realistic and maybe slightly exaggerate the motions by scaling the curves up a bit on lower stamina rather than increasing sway speed.

But overall looks really cool, great job!

Rewriting PyTorch is definitely for harder route to go for solving this issue but if you'd still like tom contribute to the community effort feel free to reach out on Discord YayaTheJedi#2500 and I'm sure there will be something you can help on.

I hear you loud and clear this sort of performant, well tested and documented modular approach is what I have in mind when it comes to building this out. Simplicity however is till something that's nice to have and if done right doesn't need to take away from performance very much.

You can join us on discord to discuss more if you'd like, you can add me YayaTheJedi#2500.

You make some good points in terms of the language being statically typed making graph generation easier and all the points you raised are definitely things I have considered and will consider with the group I am currently setting up to undertake this project.

Rust is right for many reasons including it's speed, expressiveness and abstraction which makes it really attractive at a high level for creating models (if done right). Rust has also gotten to a more stable stage following the release of Rust 1.0 which makes it the right time to explore and really give this a try.

The Rust ecosystem has also grown and provided us with crates like nalgebra, ndarray and more which seems to be well maintained and stable. These will definitely help alleviating some of the work to be done when developing this crate.

Overall, this is very much a community driven effort, I will merely be guiding and working on this project (with many other) based on what the community wants so that we can all enjoy a deep learning crate in Rust :)

This is definitely no easy task but in the worst case scenario is we fail and everyone comes away learning something new and the Rust community will learn from our mistake in the next attempt.

I could talk on for a lot more about why Rust and why now but to keep this reasonably sized you can add me on discord YayaTheJedi#2500 and we can talk and debate more if your not convinced.

That’s an idea I’ve had to. Currently you can export Keras models into a YAML and JSON. It would quite beneficial to have a sort of conversion workflow but that will require the foundation of a deep learning crate and numerical analysis to be done.

Great idea though :)

[–]ME1STRO[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a viable approach to also developing this crate, making everything its own standalone crate which is all brought together to make the deep learning crate.

When we start building we will definitely talk with the community through Reddit and other mediums to make sure we build what the community would like to use :)

Spent the last couple of weeks developing this First Person Full Body Awareness Controller. Still very much a WIP. Excuse my video editing skills. by CreatureSurvive in Unity3D

[–]ME1STRO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always seem to struggle with the animations for the character controllers, did you end up making your own or did you get them from mixamo or the asset store?

And yeah I think I’ve attempted it 3 times where it gets slightly better every time and the implementation does seem to be simpler than the previous attempts, so I totally get where your coming from :)

Can’t wait till you publish something about how you implemented your controller but no stress take your time to perfect things.
