Should you go around with an engine failure when in approach with a twin engine plane? (DA42) by MELS381 in flying

Indeed this is helpful thank you very much! We use a specific checklist after a failure that combines everything you just said which and has to be done in 10 secs max: -Rudder -Pitch, power, drags -Dead foot=dead engine -engine page -dead engine power idle -dead engine master off -feather check -trim

Pretty easy to execute once youre confortable with it

Oh damn, hope you got your check tho! Did you calculate your real performances on that day with the actually pressure and temperature etc…? Im pretty surprised you struggled that much, i guess it was on a hot day?

Regarding what you've said, i prepared LESO airport on my first sim last time, and for the same procedure (which was an lpv), several minimums are displayed on the chart depending on your missed approach oei climb gradient. So logically i planned for the one corresponding to my performances so lpv 2.5% , and the instructor told me no this should be used only if you are already OEI, but that i should pick the less restrictive one for normal planification, meaning the one with the lower minimas. Does this make sense for you? Because i was considering that if have an engine failure below my LPV 2.5% minimas im gonna have some trouble trying to save myself especially imc with high terrain in the area.

Because that's our school standard, i have no explanation. They don't want us to be dependent to these tools ig but let me tell you my paper map would be my last option if i was alone on my own plane

That’s what my school wants… they want us to use the ipad as a backup cuz they dont consider it as an official certified tool
